Hi All,
Unless you are familiar with, and will practice proper "static proceedures for LSI units", I STRONGLY advise these units NOT be opened. They can, and do get "destroyed" by opening them under improper conditions. There are NO, moving parts, nor, "user repairable" parts inside them--and the main part ( a LSI chip) is NO LONGER AVAILABLE ! If you wish to know more-- See either my "Seeburg MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide", or,the late Tony Miller wrote a Manual on these--still available (5/2020).
Also-- It's very important that these units ( as with most things !), NEVER are plugged in, nor un-plugged, unless the power is OFF ! Doing either, with the power on, can / will, instantly, DESTROY, the LSI ! Ron Rich
EDIT: DTP-1's require specific number lamps ONLY, be used in the coin & credit window area. Use of an incorrect # lamp, will cause serious internal damage in the DTP-1 !! LS-3 and USC models -- Use only "double hung (supported)" # 1819 lamps-- all newer models, can use any one, of the following 3 numbers. #152, #650, and best--longest lasting-- # 656. Early versions ( don't recall the time frame here ?) the "reset circuit" will "lock up" the DES, IF, the "Reset & Re-select" lamp is burned out, and an error is made by the customer-- "Reset button" must be pressed, to "un-lock" the system, if using this older type box.
Proper testing of the DRD, depends on warranty date--mid 1974, and below, need to be tested for "chanalzation" (were modified to prevent it), and should be up-dated, to prevent it ! The factory updated, mid to late, 1974's, and later production, had a "silver dot" near the plugs. Older ones should carry an update label stating "---updated to CP-72---"
On "testing" black/gray boxes-- Putting them in a working phono, is not an adequate test ! There is a whole proceedure that the factory implemented. If the whole routine is not done, chances are it will work OK in SOME, phono's, and a slight chance it wont in others. Ron Rich
