Hi gang!
I'm excited to be part of the community and jump into my first post. I've spent some time digging through the forums and to the best of my knowledge, have exhausted any previously answered questions. However, I'm new to almost all aspects of these machines, and there is likely some terminology I'm not searching correctly for. I apologize in advance if my ignorance is annoying or frustrating, I promise I'm here to learn and do the homework if I can get pointed in the right direction.
I've picked up a Wurlitzer 3600 Superstar that was in more or less working order. Before I can really diagnose all the little issues with selections and the like (which I'm almost positive it has), I've got to get some speakers in this thing first!
I have a manual that I purchased from Jukeboxmanuals.com. I'm trying my best to digest and understand it before I come here with questions. There's a little bit of a learning curve for me.
When I got the box home and powered on, I was able to play some records without any noticeable selection problems- but I did only try a few. The sound was so bad that I had to crack it open and peek at the speakers first. Not surprisingly, the cones were blown out on both mids and one of the woofers.
From what I could find from used parts on eBay, both sets of speakers (12" woofers and 6" mids) are 16Ω. I was able to find 2 new 12" 16Ω speakers on Amazon (picture below) but have not been able to find the correct shaped mids with the correct impedance. According to this eBay posting (archived here), the manufacturer is Rola, part #137055. Speakerrepaircenter.com doesn't seem to show reconing for that model- before I ask them I wanted to kick it to the group and see if anyone knows of a place to purchase the replacement.
In terms of wiring, I'm afraid I'm a little in the dark, and was hoping I might be able to cobble together a wiring diagram from the community. I'm sure it's much more simple that I'm making it. My mids all have a 7.8μF crossover shoddily soldered on to each (picture below) and the photos I've found online seem to always show one too. Is this required?
The speaker wiring diagram in the manual appears to just discuss auxiliary speakers. At this point, I don't have any intention of adding those to the load. I'm hoping I might get some advice on how to wire these things up!
To break it down the answers I'm hoping to find...
1. Are there known replacements for the midrange speakers?
2. What is the wiring diagram for 2x 6" midrange 16Ω and 2x 12" woofer 16Ω?
Thanks so much for your help. Again, I'm sure a lot of this seems pretty naive, and with any luck, I'll look at this post the same way someday. Gotta start somewhere, I suppose.
Cheers,
Ethan
