Ron,
I sold a Rowe-Ami CD100-E to friend 2 years ago. He called to the other day and said the mech is throwing CD's.
He lives in Buffalo, NY, so I just can't run up there from New Jersey to check it out.
I think there is an issue with the gripper, so if there is any advice you could give me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the GREAT DB!

BJ, Simple fix --IF someone has not "oiled it " ! Remove a CD, play that "space". As the gripper is top dead center, remove the power. With it stopped, push the gripper center piece down and allow it to snap back--Pull the gripper arm( near the base, a couple of times, and allow it to snap back. Do this several times, you have some foreign "krap" in the gripper--both sections MUST snap back audibly. Do NOT use any "lube" here, of any type ! If this won't clear it, it will need to be dis-assembled and cleaned ! Ron Rich

Ron,
Thank you, Sir, much appreciated!
I gave this guy a full set of books and I believe there was something about gripper issues in the trouble shooting section. I guess he can't read or feels it's easier to call me.

As Ron says the best idea is to strip the gripper bow assembly down, wash in warm soapy water, once dry inspect the cam & trunnion gears for any wear, I have seen these distort after someone has lubed them (if this has been done then oil or grease falls onto the sprag wheel and rots the stem bushing.
If the gears are OK then reassemble and put high melting point grease into the trunnion casting pivot point holes.
