I bought a Rowe AMI JAO, recapped the amp and the preamp, installed a new stylus, cleaned and oiled the mech, ran PERFECT for 2 weeks. I loaded it onto my truck, took the amp and preamp out for transportation, gave it to my dad and it worked for about an hour. Now no sound. Tubes light up on the amp and preamp, sound is no go......Where should I check first? Tubes? Connections are good and tight, cartridge?

Hello r8f1k,
If not done, check all connections from cartridge via amp to the speaker. Maybe the mute function does not work, means amps is still in mute mode. Or the amp does not work for any reasons. Play a record, pull out the input plug from the amp and touch the input socket with a metal wire. If there is a loud noise, then amp works. If nothing can be heard the amp fails. If it is a Shure 77 cartridge, they can fail. A simple idea: Maybe somebody did decrease volume to zero.

Just a little background, my dad was an electric alarm/elevator/bank vault installer for 30 years. He is very well versed in most things electric. I have been talking with him, I forwarded your information on the amp and the mute feature. He has checked the amp and it is good, however, there seems to be a problem with the hum balance pot. Could this case no sound?
