Hi Robby, Yes-- I saw that too, and wondered ?? Isn't the amp powered up by the same relay as the TT ? Ron Rich

In junction box, amp & TT on same relay. There is also a relay inside amp with socket for TT, but on mine, no difference if it's plugged on amp or junction box.

OK-- It's about time to get out the schematic, and see what's happening--why ? Ron Rich

I am also going to re-upholster the inside and get rid of the nasty gold curtain like material - and nasty green material a previous own used on the sides of the box (inside). Original curtain is like a towel, and it's yellow, not gold Original green material should also look like a towel, it's original. I'll save it for you. Stinks like old stale cigarettes as well. Where should i send it?

I looked at the video, your turntable only start when needle is already dropped on shellac. Mine spin way sooner, before shellac is on it ! Any idea why ? Slow down, cowboys! This is NOT a problem. The reason it is not playing immediately is because the amp shuts itself off if you haven't play a selection or there are no more selections to play. The tubes start to cool down. In order for the next record to play (remember the 78 tone arm will be at the START of the record) the tubes need to warm back up before it kicks the turn table back on. It is NOT an issue once the tubs are warm - i.e. when there are multiple selections in a row.

I'm not sure how you guys typically do this here, but I am marking this issue RESOLVED just for future reference.

The schematic shows this "warm up feature"-- thus getting out the schematic, and READING it, would solve this issue. LOL-- Ron Rich

That wasn't a problem from the start, though. I knew about the warm up feature. My only questions were: 5) I do not have a 78RPM motor, I have a 45 motor - is that the only way to change the speed? - Solved with bushing. 6) I believe, but am not sure, that the snail gear which raises the tone arm must be replaced with a 78 snail gear - true? - Solved by user robbytherobot

There is no "warm up feature" on the B. Even amp cold, turntable spin when the record search begin.

Hi Ron Rich, Can you help sort out this old post for clarification? I would dispute the information stating that the picture of the aluminum cast tonearm being for 78rpm play. I suspect this tonearm was cast with a section midway on the underside for clearance of the blue rings used in 45 rpm play. I haven’t been able to determine a functioning difference from the tonearm cams. I wondered if the shorter, deeper form is to assist in rejecting the 45 rpm record. The tonearm spring seems to be able to be adjusted for either 45 rpm or 78 rpm tonearm starting placement. Your wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Robert

The tonearm for 45rpm is totally different (length, shape...), it's in the manual. There is no spring on the 78rpm tonearm, nor on the 45rpm.

Yep, Ron is correct. The cast tone arm in the picture is what was in my old AMI B 78 player. The 45 players I have seen have a long thin tone arm almost like a modern Hi Fi. Gary
