I'm new to juke boxes. Bought my first R80. I bought the manual because this thing was all over the place. I pulled all the pins, individually cleaned them, and reassembled the unit. Now its "dead on" EXCEPT, all "A" and "B" selections are one number off. (A1 plays A2 and so on, all the way through B0 playing B1) It's very consistent at being off by one. However, all "C" through "V" selections play flawlessly. I think I've made the proper adjustments as per the manual, but can't seem to correct this problem. Anybody know what I'm missing?
Thanks!

Welcome to the hobby, Roger.
Mechanical search unit, correct? There's a procedure in the book to make sure the front wipers, back wipers, and the two solenoids that shove the pins out (all in the search unit) are aligned with each other and the circuit board correctly, and that the wipers are making contact with the circuit board properly. Was this part of your procedure? Maybe one of those things is off just enough to cause issues only with those two letters. Odd that it's not all of them, though.
Before you do that, I think I'd also make an A or B selection that you know is problematic, let it get as far as shoving the pin out, then turn the service switch off before the basket starts to spin. Check to see if it actually pushed out the correct pin or not (they are labeled on the back side). If it truly is a problem with ALL of the A's and B's, pick one that's near the top so it's easy to see which pin got pushed out. If it didn't push out the correct pin, then it has to be a search unit or selector button issue. If it did push the correct pin that you selected, and when you let it continue the cycle it plays the wrong record, then you may need to realign the rotating assembly that detects and resets the pins. There are procedures in the book for aligning all of that.
I just finished work on an MM-6 that was all out of whack in there from someone guessing at what was wrong without the book. It takes patience but all the info is in there to get it set up right.
