Guys - I am very close to my conversion from 45RPM back to 78RPM. I have a new tone arm assembly and installed the 78RPM cam. However, the tone arm is a good 2in away from the record when I try to make a selection (above the record, but in the correct spot to start playing). Does anyone have some images of an AMI B with the 78RPM tone arm in place? I would especially like to see under the tone arm - how it is installed.
Thanks.

LTR, Didja check your Service Manual ? I may be thinking of another AMi manual, but I believe that I have read that there is a "height adjusting screw" there ?? Ron Rich
P.S. I hope you are saving the exchanged parts, and documenting your work, so someone in the future can reverse this process --- If so, please post a list of parts needed, and your actions here, and I'll make it a "sticky". Thanks, Ron Rich

Ron,
I do have a Service Manual, but that's not terribly helpful for these early machines - I will look today, however. I am keeping all of the parts - was thinking of selling this 45RPM conversion kit on eBay after I am done since it will have all of the parts and it works. Now to the problem, I tried all of the height adjusting screws - the one for the tone arm and the one at the back of the assembly where the pivot shat is. Neither of these help. It is much easier to describe the problem if you look at these images, but I can't add them to this forum. I made an icloud link to view them. When the record is playing, the tone arm is about 2in above the record. Way past any adjustment - something is wrong in the way the tone arm is installed.

The way it appears to me, is the tone arm shaft is too short ? Look at the parts section and see if maybe a spacer, or ball bearing, should be inserted prior to the shaft ? Ron Rich

I was starting to think that maybe the shaft is wrong - it came with the tone arm, but that doesn't make it correct. The one that I took off had the 45RPM conversion on it, but that doesn't make it the wrong SHAFT. This will be my next experiment.

That shaft doesn't look square to me. It might be the angle but in that first picture, the tone arm shaft doesn't look parallel to anything else that is perpendicular to the bedplate! Norman.

It's the photo. It fits on the shaft with no force, but it doesn't go all of the way down in the photo because of the position of the cam. Seems like the cam is not deep enough for the arm to drop far enough down. I tried both the 45 cam and the 78 cam and neither one drops far enough down to touch the record. I am stumped.

I have now tried all of the parts I have in all combinations - old shaft with new parts on it and 78 arm, new shaft with new parts and 78 arm, both of these with the 45RPM cam and the 78RPM cam. None of this works. I even used a different 78 tone arm that the previous owner provided (looks exactly the same as the one I bought, but the finish is crap). It didn't reach the record either.

It's stating the obvious but the geometry just doesn't look right! I have an AMi D manual pdf that has a section on the R200 78rpm mechanism and has a picture looking square on to the the tonearm in the rest position (there's also a similar picture in the C manual). I have messaged you a Dropbox link to that part of the D manual. It also covers adjustments which might help you. Norman.

Sometimes the simple solution is the answer. It wasn't anything to do with the way I installed the parts or the parts themselves - it was my own desire to route that stylus wire right down the middle of the tone arm. Made sense to me as the correct routing - there is even a little tab to hold the wire at the back of the tone arm. Well, the wire was stopping the arm from falling low enough to touch the adjuster - or the record. I did some creative routing - which I need to revisit, but it works for now. Problem solved! You can see that the wire has thick insulation around it in the photos I shared. I also got some adjustment info from a friend of mine which I can share privately - more detailed than the manual on tone arm adjustment with good images. PM me if interested. Thanks for the input - I'm going to focus on cosmetics now.

I'll ask him if I can share the file. He is particular about sharing jukebox manuals.

P.S. I agree that information technology (IT) should be for sharing information - I like sharing info to help other people fix jukeboxes, pinball machines, vintage bikes, whatever. I just need to ask my friend about this one.

No problem--I understand that ! Is he listed as a supplier in our FAQ's section ? Will he say which manual has that info in it and will he sell it ?
