Hello all,
I have a SMC-1 that has 2 issues.
The first one I believe is in the CPA. When it is connected the record rejects as soon as the needle touches down, but works like normal when disconnected. I know that the CPA is supposed to reject any record that is playing when it is turned on, so I assume that the auto-reject board has failed somehow. I swear I used to have a schematic on the CPA, but can't find it in the service manual. Can anybody point me in the right direction on that?
The second issue is the red RCA cable has an open on the cable between the amplifier and the connection to the mechanism. What would be the best (read: least destructive) way to remove the wire from the pin that connects to the mechanism cable?
Thanks, Dalton

Hi Dalton The "CPA", or rather, more correctly named, "the service switch assembly", does contain an auto reject PCB on later units. I would say your diagnoses is 100 % correct--it has failed--usually either the cap, or transistor--but sometimes the 555 also--I will repair it, if you would like to ship it to me-- Don't quite understand about the audio cable--what/ where is (it) open-?- measure it from the fastoon at the tone arm bottom to the tip of the RCA plug. If the shield is broken, NBD--just common it with the blue one at the amp-- Ron Rich

Ron,
I'll take a look at the CPA when I have more light available. If it looks way out there I'll contact you about repairing it.
As for the cable, my head must be somewhere else. Thank you for telling me to connect them together. There is the cable from the tonearm that terminates in a plug, and the cable that starts as a plug then terminates into RCA plugs. The second one was my issue, but that should solve it.
Thank you again Ron.

Hi Dalton, You can operate the phono just fine without the auto reject board in the SSA. Just be sure you remove( using a low wattage soldering iron) and INSULATE the wires when, off the board--- . The TEC ( formerly A-MP brand) plug you are speaking of is repairable--I stock both male and female pins for it--. Ron Rich

I removed the CPA and desoldered the board. After I figure out where my wire nuts are I'll ensure that they won't contact anything else and replace the unit.
I should be able to live with it as is, but I'll keep in mind you stocking pins. As of now I have a bad volume pot that I need to take care of then it should hopefully be almost good as new, cosmetics aside.
Thank you for everything.

I like it a lot! It's normally on freeplay but I do enjoy the autoplay feature occasionally if I'm busy with other things. Plus it's nice knowing that it probably isn't the cause if anything goes wrong with the jukebox as a whole.
EDIT: That does remind me, do you stock the wallbox adapter for it?

Ron,
It would be with a Seeburg SC wallbox. I'll contact you in a separate email about it later.
