Hello
I have had my 434 almost 30 years. The first years it worked well, but slowly it started to loose its voice. 15 years I played it with external amp and new cartridge, but last month I decided to restore it. I ordered new tubes, new cartridge (Varco P-132D) and installed all. Everything works well, tubes are glowing and cartridge plays its own silent sound, but loudspeakers does not play any music! (pure silence). Feels like the amp does not get any triggering order (is it so, that sound is "on" all the time, or just when the needle is on the table?). Or should I take off the amp and check all soldered connections?
Thanks! Marko

Hello Marko,
The amp isn't "on" all the time. For selection, changing processes etc. the amp is muted. When the needle lnds on the record, then the mute function gets deactivated. One microswitch is involved at this sequence. You should compare the equivalent sequence of operation in your service manual.
To find out whether the amp works in general: Let a record play (even with no sound). Unplug the input wire from the amplifier. Take a thin nail or similar and touch the metal of the input socket. If you hear a loud hum then the amp works in general.

Thank you so much Hildegard! There was some contact problem in prox. switch, and once I used that switch on-off 20 times, it started to work again! My Concerto is back in business!
Freundliche Grüße
