Rockola 488 won't pick up record

I got a Rockola 488 that the previous owners of the house left in the basement, I ordered a case key got inside and several records were on the platter a couple mangled. Removed them, punch in a number and it picks the record up and puts it on the turntable fine and plays fine. However it will not pick the record up at the end of the song and if you select another record it just sets it down on top of the first. Any ideas on how to rectify this issue?

What are your thoughts? I actually just had it pick up the record correctly once, it seems to be just slightly out of kilte
