On the old Phonoland messageboard we had a running thread where anyone could post links to eBay offers of jukeboxes where we thought the vendor were asking silly prices or gave misleading descriptions. "An Easy fix" was very common.
Here's one where the vendor is asking for silly money for a Rock-Ola 443 in poor condition the graphic and record card insert are shot. It looks as if it's in a second hand furniture store. In the photos the machine is on but the gripper arm is stuck over a record and the selector light next to the coin slot isn't working. A note on the dome glass says it plays.
I particularly liked the description.
"Used, good cosmetic condition.
Very good inside condition as well.
However it dose not play music at the moment, the expert suggests that the stylus needs to be replaced and
needs some TLC."
I guess that covers everything.

Hi Riley, Yep-- nothing's changed in the last 20 or so years-- But "hopeful" is not the word I'd use for these sellers. See my "eBay scams" post, above, in the "Off topic" section --- Ron Rich

It may not be a scam. The organisation selling it is a charity and as well as operating in the UK operates at least in one other country, France. Only ever visited one in France and found that they have all manner of secondhand things from books to double glazed doors, to crockery, to clothes etc. emmaus.org.uk/Could be that they are just reporting what the donor has told them. Most of these charities operate with a large number of volunteers.

Given that the starting price for a non functioning jukebox in poor cosmetic condition was about three times what would be considered realistic.
eBay listings are supposed to be accurate and truthful, it's part of the terms and conditions. No way could it be considered "in good cosmetic condition."

Anyone see the "Seeburg Jukebox Tormat Testser" for sale on ebay? Plastic box with male and female RCA plugs and a toggle switch. A bargain at only $39.95 and $15 S&H for those that don't have a flashlight battery handy.

Hi Lincoln, Since you posted it, I just looked it up-- Three problems I see with it-- #1. It is not able to "TEST", a "Tormat" ! 2. Uses 3 batteries-- not what supposed to be used to flip the torroids 3. It does not state if it is positive, or negative, or reversible, biased (would guess pos. ONLY, from whats written). Ron Rich

Found another one-- Guy is selling "fluted glass" for model R's-- exactly the same thickness as Seeburg used-- However it's all one sided, and is not sanded well. He claims it's Seeburg NOS--NOT true, I don't think-- I handled "tons" of that stuff, all was very well "sanded"--smoooth as a baby's bottom ! If not "well sanded" I think one is "just l@@king for trouble", down the line--- From what I was I was told, the model R's came off the production line with three of the flutes in one direction, and two in the other. Every other phono, had an opposite facing flute, in the center. NONE, had all five of the flutes facing the same direction. Ron Rich
