Hi,
On my Continental 1, the transfer cam (that clamps onto the record to lift it) was a bit sticky.
I thought an easy fix, so I lubed and cleaned it and it started working fine.
Then, the transfer arm started failing to lift the records from the Record Magazine or lift it from the turntable.
If I give it a slight helping hand, it lifts the record and all goes well.
It just requires a slight lift to get going.
It is like it has reduced power.
I know I must have done something while cleaning the transfer cam, but don't know what. I did not remove it to clean it, just lubed and worked it a bit. I have been looking but I'm not smart enough to work out what may be wrong.
Can anyone provide some advice? or where to start looking?
Kind Regards
Gordon Sydney, Australia

Hi Gordon, Have you checked the power supply going to that motor ? If that's an AC motor-- does it have a "fly-in/out" type clutch ? Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
Thanks for your reply.
Looking at it working, I think the clutch may not be flying out enough to engage the gearbox. I may just be pushing against it.
I will remove the motor and try to see what is stopping it.
Thanks again. Enjoy your Christmas.

Ron,
I pulled the motor out and it looks fine. A little dirty, but okay.
The motor spins freely and it turns crank turns firmly. It appears okay When it fails to lift the record, the motor continues to turn. The problem may be inside the crank case (gearbox?). Perhaps a gear loose? I can't see how to open it to check and there are no oil holes. It appears to be sealed and I am hesitant to prize the side cover open. It appears brittle.
I will keep looking.
Cheers

Ron,
I found the problem.
I ended up opening the 'gearbox' and it was a gear slipping, on it's shaft, under load. I guess it was easier to slip than lift the record.
I have not idea about a clutch, I don't think it has one. If it has I don't know how it works as there is no room for any movement.
The jukebox is now lifting records on and off the turntable, but appears way out of adjustment.
I think I can resolve this.
Thanks and Happy and safe Christmas to all.
Cheers
Gordon.

Ron,
I was concerned about opening the case to the gearbox. I had to drill out some brass pins holding it together.
Firstly I tried to (very carefully) tap the gear further down the shaft, I was hoping it may be tapered.
This was not successful, so I heated the shaft and gear with a soldering iron and added solder. It has a collar so it didn't interfere with the gears.
It appears to be holding firm.
Cheers

Hi Gordon, I was going to suggest drilling the collar and adding either a set screw, or roll pin--- Hope that holds for you ! Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
I was thinking the same. I don't know how long the solder will hold and will probably drill it and add a roll pin if it gives out. I have given it a workout today and tomorrow is Christmas, so hope it holds as all the kids are coming. We are limited to 10 guests due to COVID, so, things a little different this year.
Cheers Gordon....

Hi Gordon, My wife went "food shopping" early this AM-- came home and loaded the fridge with goodies--'bout an hour later, doorbell rings, our daughter is unexpectedly standing there with her hands full of bags, loaded with cooked food. We planed on going nowhere, nor having any guests-- hardy can get anything out of the fridge without unloading it first-- too bad as a lot of it will spoil, before we can eat it- but she lives too far away to take it back ! Merry Christmas to all ! Ron Rich
