Hi All, Rowe part numbers starting about the time of the R-84 phono were 6 digits long. Older part numbers were broken up with dashes-- at some-point, when they got a new computer, the dashes were eliminated. Either way, the last two digits represent the revision number. If a part has the same part number, it should interchange with any other part with that number. Ron Rich

Glad that you put this up Ron, have a question i know that rowe amps like 6-07438 are interchangeable like you told me before, but i came across an amp looks the same but this ones part number is 601-07438 so its 601 instead of 6 the 07438 part remains the same so just checking

I dono-- never saw a Rowe part number more then 8 numbers long-- check the "plugs"-- If the same, I would ASSume it should work ?? Ron Rich

Its on ebay listed as coming out of a R83 strange but it looks exactly like the others same circuit boards switches and the rest

Hi John, I looked in the R83 parts list - the amplifier is listed as 6-07438-01 although the picture of the amp has 601-07438 printed on the cover. In any case, that amplifier might as a minimum, require a special adapter harness if you are using it to replace the 6-07438-04 in the R86. The compatability charts for the R85 and R87 (I don't have an R86 manual) are a bit confusing because they use the part numbers of the amplifier and output transformer package ie 6-07439. The 6-07438-01 amp forms part of 6-07439-01 (amp + transformers) but that does not feature in the compatability charts. The version 6-07439-02 (R85) - with 6-07438-02 amp - does feature on the compatability chart but requires a special adapter harness (Note J on the compatabilty chart) for the R87. My understanding is that the 6-07438-04 and 6-07438-06 (6-07439-05 pkg) amplifiers are directly interchangeable. It looks like that you could also use the 50W RI-4 and RI-5 amplifiers. Norman.

thanks ron its a bit confusing i think i will steer clear of that AMP, just thinking of getting it as a spare but will leave it i think, still someone on the forum might want a r83 amp. i have the r-86 manual for mine have to read it line by line i am learning though slowly, lol

I would use caution when referring to this chart. It was offered to me by one of the recommended resources however they had not checked or used it to know how accurate it is. I would think of it as a good building block for a confirmed chart in the future. otherwise you could simply delete the post if you don't think its worth the effort.

Rowe has had several "series" of part numbers-- I think this may be one of the earliest I have seen ? AMi kept the same numbering system for many years--Rowe came along and changed it-- but I don't think this was from AMi, to Rowe ? Ron Rich

In memory of Ken, I typed up the last two pages from the manual he referred to here, and cross-referenced it with some other sources to add a 3rd column. I didn't type up the manufacturer info from the Shop manual, as I believe it to be of little use (in many cases the manufacturer is implied by the part number. RIP Ken.
