I have an occasional problem in that the mechanical breaker activates on occasions. I've got into the habit now, when I've not using it for a few days of using the scan switch to rotate the carousel, it seems when at first it runs a bit slow, it trips, but I keep re-setting the breaker each time and after a minute ot two of scanning the carousel speeds up a bit and it stops tripping. Then it'll be fine and doesn't trip again regardless of how many selections I make.
Does the carousel motor need an overhaul? I've lubricated everything accessible.

Hi Riley,
Where have you been hiding ?? Yep-- over haul the motor --remove old carbon-- check-re-grease the gearbox if needed-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron.
I suspected as much, it was more a case of I really didn't want to do it. It's a pig of a job as the access is so poor. A case of removing the lower back panel and lying full length on the floor and attacking the three securing bolts with a spinner....mostly by feel! Not that easy for anyone, but something my wife said I shouldn't be doing at the age of 81.
Anyway... the job's done, there was a fair amount of wear on the commutator, which I addressed with some emery paper. The brushes were in excellent condition. The gearbox was turning quite freeely so I left that alone.
Put it all back together and played a dozen sides at each end of the carousel and it didn't trip out once.
