I have a 440 that I am trying to bring back to life. After a great deal of tinkering, I have it operational except for the write in mech. The motor is cleaned and lubed and the contact points on the write in itself have been cleaned. When I enter a letter and number on the keypad, the write in does not rotate. If I manually rotate it, it will energize and flip the correct selection. At that time, the read out does its thing and the record is returned to the carousel when finished. The control box is good as I have a spare which I tested and there was no improvement. All fuses are good. I put a meter on the jack to the write in motor and I get no reading when a selection is made on the keypad. So, my deduction is that something is not sending the power to the motor to start the write in process. I would appreciate any push in the right direction. I have been working on this every day for over a week. Thanks.

Refer to Sequence No. 8 on page 29 of the manual. Is the write-in relay K3 pulling in when a letter and number button is depressed? You are either looking for the reason that K3 is not energising or why (if it is), there is then no circuit to the write-in motor.
Norman.

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that. The write-in relay IS locking down at the entry on the keypad. Since I have this relay activating and the resulting lever flip with manual rotation, I am really stumped as to why no power is being sent to the write-in motor. I guess I will carefully meter the power supply outputs. Thanks. I appreciate any help I can get here. I have been registered with another forum and seeking information there but no luck at all.

Willy, That motor is a "25 VAC" type-- should be an easy diagnosis-- Is the 25 VAC on the relay contact ? Do you have a relay that is making good contact ? wire should go directly to the WI motor-- other side of the motor to gnd, or, vise, versa--see schematic. Ron Rich

There's also a normally closed contact of K4 (the stop relay) that current to the write-in motor passes through.

It was the contact on the stop relay! Now to figure out why the Reset button doesn't work anymore! Thanks! This site is a great help!

It won't reset the button. Sorry if I missed something. I DID read the FAQ's...I'll plug away at it. I have made pretty good progress, just a little more to go then on to other stuff. Thanks again. By the way, I have been checking and re-checking the relay contacts. I just missed this one. Sorry, again and if this Reset thing is just me missing something simple, I'll find it. I know you're busy.

The reset button breaks the circuit to the latch solenoid on the ground side. You are aware that the reset button only operates when a single selection pushbutton (letter or number) is pressed?

Yup. The thing is, it was working prior to me getting the write-in to work. I'll go back and re-read everything...Thanks

What does "--won't reset the buttons" mean ? What do you expect to happen when, and why are you pushing a "reset button" and which "reset button" are you pushing ? Ron Rich

When making a selection on the keypad and you have pushed one button but change your mind....you hit the reset button on the keypad. This is supposed to unlock the selected button and allow for a different button choice.

OK-- What happens if you push one button, then turn off power ? Does the button un-lock instantly ? Ron Rich
