I've two of these wall boxes I use to select mp3s to play through my vintage h-fi. One is on "free play" the other you need coins. I've had these for over ten years. The latter accepts old 50p coins.. of which I've about a dozen. Well it did until recently, when it has progressively rejected some but accepted others.
I was going to ask for some help, but instead applied a bit of common sense. I opened the coin mechanism and cleaned the magnets with some WD40. Problem solved.

Hi Riley, In my humble opinion, you have don yourself no favors here-- WD 40 is NOT what I would do to a slug rejector ! If there is any "plastic" in that unit -- remove and wash it now as WD-40, can melt plastic -- See the last post in our FAQ's section--- Ron Rich

Ron I didn't wash it in the stuff, I just put a drop on bit of kitchen roll and scrubbed the magnets with the tip of my index finger, then went over them with a dry piece of kitchen towel. The coin grinder is all metal, except for the fingers at the base and you're well clear of those when the gate is open. It was otherwise very clean in there. "At no point were plastics harmed in this operation." Thanks for your concern.

You still don’t want to use WD40 on a coin mech, it may help for a while, but the heat from the light bulbs inside and the passage of time will cause it to gum up and in a few months you’ll be back where you started from. Take out the coin mech, run it through the dishwasher, blow it out with compressed air, reinstall, and you’ll be good to go.

Gum up what?
I didn't use it on any moving parts. I suggest you re-read my posts.
I said I didn't wash it in WD40. I put a dab of it on a bit of kitchen roll and rubbed the magnets. That's all! You can see them in my photo. Just enough to remove the oil and dirt of decades by rubbing them. Then I wiped them clean with more kitchen roll. So there was no residue left and no WD40 anywhere else.
There's no way I'm putting the coin mech in a dishwasher. In the circumstances which I adequately explained before, it'd be a nonsense to do it.
So can we all move on now?

Hi Guyz, That whole coin unit lifts out of the holder easily ! I do not advocate it be washed in a dishwasher, as the heat will also warp that pot metal, sometimes ! "Dirt" is usually not on the magnets, but on the rails, the coins ride on. Ron Rich

Well, I wouldn’t put it on the “sterilize” setting on the dishwasher, I agree. If a person wanted to avoid the dishwasher then they could just drop it in a sink full of hot water and scrub it out. Just make sure to blow it dry completely before putting it back in.

Put the spades down boys. There's no "gum" never was, nor is there any longer a problem. Your suggestions in respect of my carefully described and photographed circumstances were a classic example of overkill. Then your unnecessary later remarks made you sound like a couple of sniggering schoolboys. I'm sure you're well intended, but it didn't come across that way.
Now let's move on.

Now let's move on. I can’t imagine what it must be like for you, walking around all day with a chip on your shoulder the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. Just know that I pity you.

Oh dear! You're just being childish, coming out with a remark like that, how old are you? You're the one who deserves pity.
No one's interested now, everyone has had their say.
There's no problem and there was no need for any further comment after my quite civil post on 18.05.21.
You're the one trying to make it a problem by dragging it out.
Move on.
