I used a microwave oven motor 2.5-3rpm
Twidec/Synchronous Motor AC100~127V 50/60HZ Turntable Synchron Motor 4W CW/CCW Electric Motor 2.5-3RPM/MIN TYC-50-2.501 
With a price point of $6.99 is not bad compared to $75-$150 you pay elsewhere. It does require some moderate modification. I added two 5/16" nylon shims and I held the shafts together with a 5/16 in. Double Split Shaft Collar. I also crimped the power cord wires of the new motor to the original wire harness. Screws shims, coupler and motor for less that $20.

We're both working on similar problems, and I love solving the "how do I fix this with modern parts" puzzles. On my AMI D40 I just used a couple of these similar motors (18rpm@60hz compared with the original motor's 20rpm) along with these fittings, and a rubber grommet acting as a tire, to restore the rotating light gels in the bottom of the cabinet. I did have to redrill the bracket for the new motor, as the holes didn't quite line up.
