Model 2000 Selector Issue

Actually this phono I'm repairing for someone else (don't do that often) has a few selection issues but let's tackle this strange one first, the rest may just fall into place.
After rebuilding, cleaning and lubricating I'm starting to put it through its paces and have accumulated a list of selections that do not work. Many of them are in groups such as C1 C3 C5 C7 C9. I thought it was some sort of group coil issue but then I tried selecting them by pushing the number first and then the letter, well to my surprised the basket took off spinning and selected and played the correct disc. Hey, I couldn't be happier but I still have a problem to correct,
Any idea what might cause this phenomenon?

I thought you'd never axk ---
Watch the letter buttons when you press down on them-- there is a switch that is making contact as long as you manually hold the button down lower then the latch holds it- when latched, that switch is opening-- fix that to end your problem-- Ron Rich

Pure Genius!
Works perfectly now.
Took out the selectors cleaned adjusted and lubricated and paid close attention to what you suggested.
The manual doesn't cover that particular adjustment very well so I just went with trial and error until I had it latching while fully on the contact.
