Hi all. I'm having an issue with my 2400 selector (changer) motor. After making a selection, the motor just hums and does not turn. If I turn the rotating plate by hand the selection process completes as it should. I purchased a replacement motor and gear assembly, and it's doing the same thing. I'm thinking the motor isn't getting enough juice. Anyone have any helpful hints or ways to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance.

"Seeburg1954" - the most likely cause is the capacitor that runs the search motor. It's inside the junction box and approx 75mfd non-polarized.
There are several electrolytic caps in there that should all be replaced.
Another test is to press inward to actuate the two microswitches in the center of the pin wheel. In any non-searching mode actuating the reversing switch will cause the search motor to run in reverse direction as if it had just punched a pin and was now retracting. I don't recall if it is the op or bottom one, but one -should- cause the motor to run.
The relays inside the junction should have their contact checked for pitting and adequate pressure. Do this also for the two over-center switches right behind the changer motor.
--Make sure that mech if liberally oiled--.

Thanks RobNYC. I might be using the wrong name for the motor. It's the small 24V motor and gear box that mounts on the outside of the selector assembly. The white plastic gear on the motor meshes with the outer edge of what the manual calls the "rotating plate" which is the same size as the selector plates and is positioned under them. If I punch a pin by hand everything works as it should - the record carrier spins, the selector crank turns and stops where it should and cancels the selection correctly, the changer arms lift the record into place and it plays. But if I make a selection using the selection buttons on the front of the machine none of the selection process moves until I turn the "rotating plate" to the left by hand until it stops (about a quarter turn) and the selection buttons reset. Then the rest of the selection process is set in motion and completes as it should.
The motor in question does hum until I move the rotating plate by hand to complete that first function. So it's getting some power. It just doesn't seem like enough power to turn the rotating plate. Could it be a capacitor in the circuit that supplies power to that little motor?
I really appreciate your help.

That motor is a dual winding 25 vac type, which SHOULD reverse after the pin is released. There are two plastic enclosed switches that should be operated in sequence, as the pin has pulled. These are either "Lincoln" or "MicroSwitch" brand items and tend to get dirty internally. I can't recall which switch causes the pin to be released--it will be the one actuated first. The 2nd one, if pushed by hand reverses that motor--I suspect it's not working--Push both by hand and the motor should run the rotating plate in reverse ! See service manual for proper adjustment--if adjustment is needed, expect that the switch is bad, and should be replaced ! Ron Rich

Hi everyone. I'm finally back working on my 2400 motor run capacitor issue and I'm having trouble finding this particular part. The original is 50vac/65-93mfd. Antone know where I might find one of these?

Hi Brad, As Rob mentioned above--it's a NON pol approximately 75 mfd cap-- did you check our FAQ's section listing parts suppliers ? Ron Rich
