Hi, I recently picked up a nice working 148 on 78s. I have bought the manual and trouble shooting guide. Never had a seeburg as old as this before, so slowly trying to get my head around its workings. Not that I need to at the moment, but I would like to know how to remove the push button selector unit. From initial inspection, it looks like a pain to get any retaining screws/nuts out. Of course it may be a simple procedure. So it would be good to know from someone who has carried out this procedure before. It would also be good to get any handy hints/tips on keeping this machine in good working order. I think this will be a keeper.
Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary, Been "many a year" since I have removed one of them-- I recall the two sections come out first (watch that cable !!)--after which, it seems it's fairly straight forward-- just start "un-screwing" --Sorry-- that's all I recall-- Ron Rich

"Allthingsdiy mike" i think i did video on some other things i did to mine as well, like one of the trays would not reliably get pulled out over the record tray and how i fixed it. some hard to spot bearings that needed lubrication, etc.

Hi Mike, thank you so much for your very helpful videos. Regarding taking the selection assembly out, here was me thinking I was going to have to take the screws out by reaching inside. The answer was so simple as you pointed out. Just take out the screws on the top and underneath and remove the whole assembly. Some of your other tips on oiling bearings etc were also informative. Thanks so much. I will be looking for a teardrop speaker soon, so please let me know if you know where I could get one. Regards Gary

Hi Ron, good idea. As I am not the owner of the video, I will have to leave it up to Mike to post the link. Bye the way, I took your advice regarding the free play and bought a load of quarters at a local car boot sale. The guy was wondering what I wanted a lot of old American coins for. I think I can get a maximum of 20 credits on the machine which is fine.

Hi Gary, Thinking about it-- "free play" on a 146-8 should be no problem--I don't remember exactly how it can be done, but you should be able to dis-allow the subtract pawl from counting down ! On "caution" I do recall is the lamp behind the window MUST BE a #51-- do not use any other number, as you will ruin that disc that has the numbers on it-- also, be sure the lamp is as far away as possible-- SAVE the parts you remove--someone may want to restore coin use--someday.
