Hello all,
My son bought an AMI D-80 that was in various states of disrepair, long story short he has the R-480 Mechanism all cleaned up and we got it back together but it is missing part number F-2160 “Tone Arm Spring”. The manual shows the parts-group but does not show how it goes together, I have read that this is on the D-80, E-80 and the E-120 if anyone has one of these boxes and could take a picture of this part and how/where it mounts I would appreciate it.
Thanks Brad

Hi Brad, Twaz a Looooong time ago, when I had to make one-- I remember the nice "little old lady", that owned the phono. Her husband had been "working on it" prior to his death, and I guess either miss-placed it, or lost that spring-he could not figure out why the record "skipped"- I asked her if she had a large safety pin -- she did-- she had a "collection" of various sized pins-- Once "adjusted" I played a record all the way to the end and had selected another one. At the end of the first one, she charged me with open arms, and wound up giving me the biggest bear hug anyone has ever given me, with tears running down her face. Anyway, my remember-er, says that there are holes that the ends of the spring fit into-- in the form of a "V"-- There is a photo of it on page 18 of my manual--not real good on showing attaching points-- Ron Rich

Ron, Thanks for the reply, I did not even see it on that page and yes it is a very bad picture but after looking at it and comparing it with the actual mechanism I’m pretty sure I know how it works. Time to pull out my spring steel and needle nose and fabricate this little puppy!!!
Thanks Again Brad

Hi Brad, That photo makes it look like it sits to the side-- the bottom of the V, sits downward--I have an original AMi service manual for it-- photo is actually good-- you probably have a re-print --? Ron Rich
