I've been working on a Model 440 recently and have been pretty successful in getting it going. This is my first involvement with a Jukebox. My final problem is that two of the Letter push buttons (P & V) do not lock into the "down", or selected, position when depressed. It appears that if a selected push button does not lock into the "down" position, the circuit will not be completed to the write in section. I'm not familiar with the makeup of the selector buttons and was wondering if anyone can offer any information on what has to be done to correct this problem.

Not knowing what that keyboard looks like, I'm guessing that it was one of the common Guardian built types ? If so, there should be an adjustment for the latch bar--didja l@ k in the manual ? Didja l@ k at it work and compare a working letter with the non-working ones ---? Ron Rich

The adjustment procedure is shown on pages 23B and 24 of the manual!

Think I messed up in trying to reply, will try again. Thanks for your suggestions guys. yes, I have a manual, that was the first thing I got when I started working on this thing. The latch bar adjustment seems to apply to all of the letter and number push buttons. The latch bar does hold the pin in position, however the selection will not be recognized on the write in side while the letter push button is in the unselected (upright) position. Select lever will not trip. The write in carriage will search and trip the select lever if I manually hold down the letter button until the selection is made.

Hi Rich, The latch bar adjustment is for the complete banks but if two buttons are not latching then the adjustment needs to be "tweaked" so that they all latch!

Hi Rich, Before "tweaking" it, you need to determine why, it's not latching, on just two letters--Is the latch bar sliding freely, if not, clean/fizzit so it does ! Is there "dirt" on the catch for those two letters-- once again--clean/fix it ! It's strictly a mechanical problem-- and natural that there is no WI if button is not latched. Ron Rich

GOOD NEWS !! As Norman and Ron suggested, I made sure that the latch bar was clean and I tried "tweaking" the clearance by reducing it slightly. With that minor adjustment, all of the letter buttons are now locking when depressed. Thanks for your help, this site is really helpful to an 81 year old novice like me. Regards, Rich
