Hi
I have a Wurlitzer 2400S with a rebuilt amp. My issue is with the 12 inch speakers. The mid range one is very distorted. What is my better option? - To upgrade both 12 inch speakers or try to have them reconed?. I appreciate any advice.
Thanks

If you are sure the problem resides in the speaker itself I'll make a few suggestions; -Remove the speaker and apply either about 3-4 volts AC from a transformer (60Hz)and see if flexing the frame eliminates the distortion. If so, it may be possible to place a shim or washer between the speaker and baffleboard to slightly flex the frame and keep the voice coil from rubbing. Ron Rich suggested flipping the speaker top-to bottom which might be a little difficult here with the plugs on the frame, but is also worth a try. -Recone. Desirable as it will keep the original magnet and likely the efficiency as well. -Replace with new speaker(s). I suggest the Jensen Vintage line: www.jensentone.com/vintage_ceramicwww.jensentone.com/vintage_alnico Check that there is clearance IIRC the mech comes pretty close in those machines. RobNYC -
