I picked up a Rock-ola 432 GP160 this past weekend.
Story behind it...
My father in law bought it off the Knights of Columbus in Quincy/Dorcester MA
Unclear if it was a wedding gift for his sister, or really just a gift for himself. But regardless, it ended up in their parents basement, where it sat for 30+ years.
It powers up, some lights come on, but that's about it.
I have experience restoring pinball machines, but this will be my first juke box.
My plan is to clean this thing up, and get it playing again. Excuse me if I get some of the names of parts wrong, as I ordered the manual, waiting for that to get here.
I've started removing the glass, and doors to clean and polish.
Plan to replace all the fuses, recap the amp, disassemble and clean the motor/grip arm?
Anything else I should be doing? replace the line cord with ground?
Some of the plastic is yellowing? any idea where I can find replacements? I've searched the internet and haven't found anything yet
I'm considering repainting the back (including the sides of the back piece) because someone sprayed it with brown paint. Has anyone done this? color? Is there a stencil available for the ROCK-OLA logo?

Hi Rob, Why ? woodchew "replace fuses" ? IMHO, the only time they need replacing, is if they are incorrect( some "jackass" has put in a large size fuse ?), or blown ? As for the cord-- PLEASE read the FAQ's section, on this subject. As for the yellowing plastics-- not too much can be done about that-- someone suggested you use the stuff used in cars, for the headlight plastics --I dono--try it and let us know--? "Replacements"--LOL-- "stencil"-- ?? LOL !! Color ? whatever looks nice-- Ron Rich

I replace fuses because 1. They are inexpensive 2. Simple to swap out 3. If they fail they can cause lots of damage, money, and my time trouble shooting
Would be nice to repaint the back, then re stencil the Rockola logo back. I can’t imagine I’m the first to want to do this.

Hi Rob you might also want to read the sticky posted by Ron titled "Common problems with the "400" series phono's". There are also some good instruction videos on yutube.

Rob, Gary, As I rit in the FAQ's -- Use a lot of caution--there are some really, BAD, YouTube videos there too ! A lot of people "fix" one jukebox, make a tutorial and call themselves "experts" ! Ron Rich

So after a couple months I have this thing mostly working. I only get a few hours on weekends to work on it.
Griparm and mechanism was disassembled and cleaned.
It's playing records!
Unfortunately only out of the right channel. I swapped the wires on the needle cartridge and still right channel only. I also swapped the tubes on the amp, still only right channel.
My plan all along was to rebuild the amp with a cap kit. I'm hoping that fixes the issue.
also, freeplay doesn't seem to work properly. I press the freeplay button, It works for like 3 songs, then stops working. It lets me add credits with quarters. I need to work on that as well.

You've ruled out the cartridge as an issue for your right channel only problem. Now switch the input at the preamp to rule out a break in the tone-arm cable. If the issue stays the same then you know it resides somewhere after like the preamp, amp, or speaker cables etc.

Hi Rob, There ain't no "free play" on that phono-- please read the sticky, "how a phonograph works" in our FAQ's section. Ron Rich

Darren - I checked the tone arm cable with a multimeter. So I don't think that is the issue. I swapped the speakers - not the speakers I didn't check the speaker wire - I'll check that as well
Ron - there is a button that says "Free play" on the box located in the bottom left right next to 5-10-25 10-25-50 (the box that supplies power to amp and turntable also has input for push button and coin switch)
When i press it, it seems to add some credits. But it doesn't stay down What is that button for?

It's a "test button"-- it adds 3 credits, so the repairman does not need to add quarters from his pocket. It is not "free play"-- Ron Rich
