Hi all, I have always wondered if there was a way to smoothen the movement of the tone arm of the 1434 on the disc. As it is now, the tone arm goes so fast that the cartridges are almost thrown onto the discs. I was thinking that maybe it is the mechanism motor that runs too fast and that reducing its speed would slow and smoothen the movements of the tone arm.
Any thoughts on this? Cheers

The movement is related to the speed of the motor, that is correct. But...there's an adjustment under the tonearm for the "sit down pressure spring" (15001). So try to relieve the pressure with the adjusting screw. Please see the manual for the 1432/1434

Yes. that commands the pressure on the discs but not the rough movement of the tone arm on the disc. Maybe a way to reduce the speed of the mechanism motor would do the trick.

Hi Fab, I do not understand --once the needle touches the record, the record, itself controls the tone arm movement--so where is the rough movement, and what does it "hurt" ? Ron Rich

Hi Ron, I am talking about the step just before the needle touches the record. The needle doesn't come gently on the record, it arrives abruptly while on Face A. It is even worse on Face B, as it it the record that is lowered down very abruptly on the lower needle. Cheers

Thanks, Fab, I have seen that happen--but have never addressed that problem, so I have zero suggestions--hopefully someone else will "chime in" ? Ron Rich

Yeah Ron, that is why I was thinking that a straightforward solution might be to reduce the speed of the mechanism motor. Cheers Fab

Hi Fab, One last question: is it the movement towards (sideways)the record that goes to fast, or is it the up/down movement that is your "problem"?
