I have bought 2 new ballasts to replace the old original one as my tubes don't light anymore (I have one new T8, and one original T12 tubes), but I am confused about how to wire them into my Jukebox (I am not electrically trained). (1) drive.google.com/file/d/1fduoK16Zwd4NXJ_dpAEKWcYaTAot3ZAJ/view?usp=sharing(2) www.robertsonlighting.com/pub/media/catalog/product/file/specfile/SP258.pdfCan someone please tell me what the small 'can' things are that are in both lines to each tube (1), and do I need still need them? They look like Capacitors? The wiring diagram for the new Ballasts (2) shows an earth for each. How do I do this? If some one could kindly draw a simple diagram to tell me how to do this I would be very grateful. Or do I need an Electrician? Thanks in advance

Hi Mike, The can-like item in the picture is simply a connector; there is no reason why you can't retain it if you wish. The earth connection would just consist of an earth wire from the ballast case, usually from the fixing screw, connected to the incoming earth (assuming there is one at the 240/120V stepdown transformer!). Earthing or grounding of 50s' jukeboxes is a subject in itself and I think it's safe to say was viewed quite differently then than we would these days!
I'll be surprised if you get your new T8 to work, strict European environmental regulations mean that new tubes don't strike from inductive ballast installations.
Norman.

Hi Mike, I am not sure what is going on here- Is this a 117 vac set-up ? Are you SURE that one of your lamps is supposed to be a T-12, while the other is supposed to be a T-8? Anyway-- See the "back" of your old ballast ? One wire only, going in -- That wire must be clipped, and connected to both of the new ballast's shorter wires. Then from the other end of the ballast there are two wires-- which need to be clipped/connected, one to each, to the two new ballasts. Use "wire nuts", or very tight "crimp", connectors. What length are your two lamps ? Ron Rich
P.S. Are the starters correct/good-- I would advise replacing them, before replacing the ballast !

Thanks Norman
I had a T8 working normally for years that is why I got another. Its much easier to fit under the button bank. Hopefully the new one will as well.
I'll use the connectors, but will have to re-wire them.
Ron, the T12 blew years ago and I put the T8 in to make it easier to fit, and it worked fine until recently.
The lamps are 30", and I have 2 new starters.
The wiring diagram (2) says the 2 wires on the new ballasts are interchangeable.
ps the T8 tubes are really hard to find in the UK, and the T12s are very expensive.

Hi Mike, Yes-- the wires are interchangeable -- just "common' to wire the short wire to the power-- Have you tried an electrical supply house for the T-8's ? Ron Rich

Yes I got 2 eventually. its the length that was the problem, they are uncommon.

Hi Mike, Just cut them to what-ever "looks neat"-- length is no problem--unless you cut them too short ! Ron Rich
