I have a rockola 454 that powers up and can write in but it does not read out.
I have the service manual and am going through it but wanted to make contact with people more knowledgeable..
When I make a selection on the panel the write in carriage turns and sets for the record, but the readout never activates. I can manually flip one of the selectors on the wheel and the readout does not turn.
-The scan switch does not turn the carriage. - the scan switch does activate the play relay. -I am able to manually move the motor via the rear knob and the carriage will. -When I attempt to use the scan switch the idler wheel turns under the player but I get a pop of the mechanism breaker. - I disconnected the motor to see if it was blowing the breaker and it still blows. - I've cleaned contacts as I can find them - I oiled the "gearbox" it's "free" but could be better.
Any hints are appreciated.

Hi Chris, Didja read our "Hi Newbies" post in the FAQ's section ? Is this phono new to you, are you repairing it for someone else-- has it been running well "for years" in your possession ? Which,"motor" didja dis-connect ? Ron Rich It's new to me, no idea about its history.. Disconnected the gripper motor.. I'm going to go after the contacts with deox again (yes read the faq on this)... i wasn't able to spend a huge amount of time on it today, but needed to familiarize myself with it more so I would get more out of the manual. The schematics in the manual I have are crap, but I'll trace down the circuit path with a meter once I get a better copy.. Was really glad to see there was an active group on these.. --chris
