Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to the site and to jukeboxes in general, and I have a question. I have a Starlet 429 that has been working like a champ for the past several months. Just last night, we make a selection, and it essentially freezes. The selector wheel moves to position and just stops. Additionally, the selection buttons remain depressed, locking the unit. I found how I can reset the selection buttons, but cannot figure out the selector wheel. I can manually depress pins and everything works fine from there. I looked over the 'stickies', and I don't have a manual. Looking for some advice. Attached is a video showcasing the issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Try-- the three fuses, or CB's on the rear of the cabinet-- If fuses--be sure you do not "over-fuse "--get the manual (see our FAQ's section for "books--parts" supplies)-- Please read, the Hi Newbies post, while in the FAQ's section. Ron Rich

Turning the power off is an easy way to reset the pushbuttons. Is the problem there for both A and B side selections? You do really need a manual but you already know that!

I have the same issue with my 433. The selector buttons get stuck in the depressed position & the only way to release them is turn the power off then on again. But at least your write-in rotor is turning. Mine isn’t. Seems to be getting stuck at the write-in relay.

If your relay is energized, but the motor is not turning- check that the motor is getting power, and that it has been oiled (load the felt pads!)with 20 wt oil, and the clutch/armature is working as it should- that is a fly-in/out type clutch-- I suggest strongly you NOT, dis-assemble that motor ! Thanks I’ll see if the motor is getting power. Would never attempt to disassemble the motor! It’s worth noting that as recently as this past Christmas the selection rotor was working. Then it stopped for some reason. Only half the selector buttons were working tho. I was only able to load half the capacity of records. Which is why I got the replacement assy, which I recently put in. The tech I had look at it last year said something was wrong with the wiring harness on the button assy. So I figured replacing it would be a possible solution. All the buttons seem functional but they get stuck. And now I have the problem of the write-rotor not turning, which started happening before I changed out the button assy. Most vexing!

Hi Norman, thanks for the tips. Yes, I'm working on securing a manual. The problem is for both A and B side selections. -Mike

Hi Mike, I suspect that you probably have a dirty contact on the stop relay. The stop relay should be marked (next to the current limiting lamp) and there is info in the stickies on cleaning contacts.
Norman.

Ron Rich Thanks Ron. I checked the fuses and everything is good; thanks for suggesting that validation. Upon researching more, I did come across an external post (outside of this forum) that describes exactly what I'm experiencing: When a selection is made, the write in carriage turns and stops at the proper place but the "carriage lever" does not hit the pin. It is like there is no power going to the coils. If I hit the lever manually, This starts the read out carriage which in turn the record carriage and the gripper motor. The gripper picks up the record and it plays. Any suggestions why the write in carriage lever isn't hitting the pin. I did clean the points and selector surface but it made no difference. From the looks of it, you suggested it may be the WI lamp (assuming that WI is the Write In lamp). I'll start researching that, and any tips would be appreciated. Thanks! -Mike
