Good morning from Florida! My 1448 developed a scanning issue. Before I tear into it, was looking for some general feedback.
After playing a selection, it will continue to "look" for another selection. It will rotate one way (left) to the stop, then cycle back the other direction (right) to the stop and keep on rotating back and forth. I can make another selection and it will play that record fine, then it starts the cycling again until I turn it off.
Any ideas on where to start?
Many thanks!

Hi JT, Sure do ! RTFM, would be my way of solving this problem--RockOla, like Seeburg, used two different "scan/play control" methods-- do not recall which this model has, but the friendly Service Manual will tel you ! Tell me and I can "go from there"-- Ron Rich

Hi JT, once you have read the manual and familiarised yourself with the inner workings of the machine, you may want to take a look at this guys youtube videos. Although its not the exact model as yours, they may be of some help. I found the video quality very good and the explanations easy to understand. The service manual for this unit is really lacking on "troubleshooting" unlike the later service manuals. Honestly, those manuals are not much better than these, but they do include troubleshooting. It could be the "cancel relay", could be cancel relay coil, interlock release coil, etc.
I will dig into it, but was looking for some insight on what the most "probable" failure could be.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

JT, & all, The schematic that should be with the manual will show this info, or it may be contained in the parts section--yes-- those manuals ARE "lacking"-- did you READ the Hi Newbies post, in the FAQ's section---- As for "You tubes"-- please read the off topic/scams post-- Ron Rich

Hi JT, First thing to check is that there isn't a selection pin sitting in the selected position and the indexing contact on the rotating block isn't picking it up because the pin is dirty. Or alternatively, that a pin is sitting partially selected (energising the start relay) and the rotating contact is missing it. It's always a good idea to check the simple things first!
Norman.

Thank you Norman for the feedback. I haven't looked it over fully (yet), but am hoping it is something simple as this. Again, thanks for the input.

Hi Guyz, Not sure-- but did RockOla use a "pin dresser" in that model-- If so, FIXIT as it probably ain't working (stuck !) Next I would "hand exorcise" all of the pins--if it is the "washer style" pin bank power control, most likely, one pin is not fully "canceled"-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. I agree, initial thought is pin not fully canceled.

Update! Selection 84 was not fully cancelling, thus creating my problem. Adjusted and all works well.

Hi JT, Glad you found it--Still have two questions-- Does that contact block have a "pin dresser" ("Dresser pin" in "Seeburg ease"), in it ? "How/what didja "adjust" Ron Rich

My apologies Ron for the delay. I adjusted the contact block slightly since it seemed to be not perfectly aligned with the carrier, ie records close to dragging on the right side when pulling them. So perhaps the pin wasn’t hitting the contact enough to fully cancel it. It appears to be corrected now.

Also, I think you are referring to the spring plunger as Rockola calls it. So yes, dresser pin…I think they are the same. If not, please educate me since I now very little on seeburgs.

Hi JT, Seeburg used a solid, "pointed piece of metal", that was supposed to "dress" (push) (looks like this < points down to the SAU) any pin, in which ever direction, it was closest to -- It was spring loaded to push down-- but has a habit of getting dirty, and sticking up too far to do any good-- Ron Rich
