A good friend of mine has a roc-ola 7000 legend that needs some service. He said one day it started just clicking on power up. i stopped over and took a peek and one of the relays on the ps was clicking and the lights were blinking on and off. I removed the power supply and brought it home just for a check over and a recap as the electrolytics were all swollen. i replaced the caps and reflowed a bunch of plug connectors for good measure, i also replace r23 (330 ohm resistor) as it was slightly cooked but still measured in spec. i returned and i installed it and the jukebox fired up like it should and was working great. A couple minutes later a relay clicked and it stopped playing. i looked at the power supply and the 12vsw and the 24vac lights were out. i removed and replaced the "computer power" plug from the power supply a few times just to count out and possible dirty connections. this is where it gets weird. if i plug that plug into the ps about half way and a little angled the relay clicks and lights come on and the jukebox works (as long as i hold it there). the second i plug it all the way in regardless of how much i move it the 12vsw and 24vac lights go out and its a no go. i figured it had to be a bad connection so i took a good look and ohmed everything out. It is not a bad connection it just seams if all of them pins make connection it shorts or overloads the ps. If i pull the plug out far enough to where a one or a couple lose contact somehow the machine works. i now pulled the cpu and cant find any shorts on there but as it only happens after a couple mins it seems somthing is heating up and causing me trouble. Im not new to electronics as i rebuild and repair vintage and modern stereo equipment but these jukeboxes look amazingly complex. does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Im not sure if the jukebox is fully fuctional when holding the computer power plug at the angle and half on but when doing so the relay clicks and the 12vsw and 24vac lights come on and the cpu appears to power up. I just wanted to be clear on that. also the cpu q1 voltage regulator (t7805ct) seems to be running pretty warm as the back of the board where its mounted with the heatsink is pretty brown. Im not sure if that is heating up and causing the issue or not.

First off-- you really do not want to "hold any plug at an angle" with the power on ! What you will probably need to do now is replace all pins in that plug-- or the whole plug. Did you clean both the header and plug--how, and with what ? Did you examine the plug-- find any pins bent down--brown colored from heat problems ? What brand plug was used -- what size ? Is "ribbon cable" used here ? Ron Rich
P.S. I would heat sink the 12 volt regulator up-off, the PCB--they do tend to run hot--

Does anyone know if all four lights on the power supply should be on even if components (amplifier, computer, lights) are not plugged in?

How are they marked ? I would ASSUME such-- however-- you know what ASSmption means !

How are they marked ? I would ASSUME such-- however-- you know what ASSmption means ! form left to right they are as follows. 24vdc, 12vdc, 12vsw, 24vac. the power supply is rock-ola 70029-a.

the pins and sockets in the connectors are in great shape. when i say i held it on there at an angle I exagerated that a bit to get the point across. While i was plugging the cpu connector in and out of the ps the relay would click on for a a split second. So i went ahead and cleaned the connectors. i plugged the connector in and nothing, i then ohmed out the connector and have no resistance between all 12 connections. I noticed while unplugging it the relay would stay engaged as long as the connector was 95 percent of the way pulled off. With the connector 95 percent of the way off and slightly tilted toward the right the relay would click, stay engaged and everything powered up. the connectors nor pins or sockets show any signs of heat or damage. It seems when at that angle and 5 percent of the way plugged in a pin or two isnt making contact with its counterpart it powers up. So far all polyswitches, diodes, rectifier, caps, resistors, transistors, fuses, and even the optocoupler seem to be in good working order.

If anyone has one of these and can simply tell me if all four of the power supply lights are on with the computer power connector unplugged that will help a lot. I cant find much info on this model. i did find a service manual that is somehow for all rock-ola jukeboxes but it is not accurate for this one. None of the connector pinouts match.

Call RockOla, and get the correct manual---- they are still in business-- and please post the number in our FAQ's section -- Thanks, Ron Rich

Rock-ola wouldnt give me a service manual or actually wouldnt even respond if they had one. Code on cpu suggests the cpu is bad. Well either way junked it. Bummer. Maybe next time
