Could use some help on a Princess 1493

First off I do have a manual and second off I am not a skilled jukebox repair person, just a music enthusiast. 

This morning I dropped a quarter in and made my first selection , it picked it up and began to play, I made my next selection and the Selector carriage assembly arm kept going round and round and not making the next selection. I powered down and back up and the record continued to play as did the selector assembly. I powered down again and got out the contact spray and wetted a cloth and wiped down the inner and the outer plate contacts on the assembly that I could reach , then I manually moved the inner selector control arm to get at the remaining plat contacts, I then cut out a piece of 100 pound bond paper and sprayed it with the electrical contact spay and slid it through the grounding points to the inner and outer carriage solenoids to clean them. I let this all dry out then powered it back up and it functioned as I feel it should have, the selector did not continue going around and it is allowing me to make and play my selections. Now I seem to have another problem, the locking bar solenoid is not releasing after the final or in this case the third selection. If I press the cancel button it'll separate but when I release this it goes back and stays connected. this allows unlimited record selections but I don't want this and I don't want the locking bar with power to it continuously, due to the constant humming but most importantly I don't want it to over heat and cause a fire. I had something similar happen once when the grandkids kept dropping in quarters and they jammed in the throat, once I cleared the 41 quarters, I noticed this lock bar had power to it still and I had read that by resetting the armature pawl on the accumulator assembly and I did this after the grand kid issue and it worked, I did this today and it worked again, until I dropped a second quarter in and after my three selections and then the locking bar stayed closed again. I'm not sure what's going on, why is this staying powered and did I do something to cause this? Its bee working pretty much flawless for the last several months until this morning. Any help would be appreciated. I notice in the manual there is a wobble plate switch but I cant imaging this having anything to do with the locking bar solenoid.

Hi Mike,
Does the write-in motor stop at the selected pin for a second ? When was the last time that motor was properly oiled, with the correct oil ? From waht you have described, my first guess is the clutch on that motor is stuck, due to lack of oil -- Ron Rich

I had turn table and record carriage motors and the amp and tube repaired/replaced back in December by a repair shop. I personally use only 3 in 1 electrical oil on any moving parts and very sparingly when I use it. I'll look into it closer tomorrow, my eyes are pretty tired at the moment. Thank you, I will get back to you on this.
Would this be causing the lock out solenoid to stay engaged?

Hi Mike,
If the lock bar solenoid is staying energised, something is not right (jammed?) in the credit unit. Is the credit light staying lit?

Yes, the light is on and the panel with select is illuminated.

Hi Norman--Mike,
My thinking is the solenoid stays energized on that model, until the hammer coil is fired ( and the WI relay is energized dropping out the solenoid--subtracting a credit)-- Iz I rong ??
Mike-- Whatz "3in One electrical oil" ? And did you soak the oil wicks, on that motor ??

Yes the ADR relay initiates the operation of the hammer coils and lock bar solenoid. I was thinking that the problem was simpler - that the credit accumulator ratchet was stuck, somehow not getting to zero credit and not opening the credit switch. The ADR relay and its actions would appear to function OK because endless selections can be made.

Yes Ron, probably I haven't ever seen that wheel stuck though I still see things from time to time that I've never seen before and I was maybe thinking more of the ratchet actuator as the issue! But I still think the problem is more likely to be in the credit accumulator - credit switch possibly?

Yep- I still see things that I think are impossible--LOL-- My brain just can not get around to that -- I can not remember what the "credit switch" looks like in that unit-- but I still am thinking that if he cleaned the ring well, and it's making good contact with the wipers, the motor must stop, prior to anything else "happening". My great, but not too long memory says that the WI motor is turned on with the last push of the keyboard, which holds the solenoid locked till the WI search has found a selected pin--at which point the motor is "SUPPOSED" to "dead stop", and the hammer is activated by the WI relay, which also releases the latch coil, and subtracts one credit off the credit wheel. - I do know that if the motor "coasts" just a little, it will then return to running constantly, which is what I suspect is happening here ? The OP had said that he had fixed the WI motor running continuously but he was left with the lock bar solenoid problem?

I did soak the wick's with 3 in 1 it's a SAE 20 electrical motor blend. I'll look into the ratchet actuator, to see if this is functioning freely. The one time prior when the grandkids dropped to many quarters to quickly into it, I reset the armature pawl on the accumulator assembly and this took care of it. There could be an issue with the ratcheting part of the accumulator not clear its self as described. Thank you both for your help, I'll let you know what I find, once I get it working again.

There should be no problem "dropping too many--two fast" -- as long as the coin unit will accept them, it should keep up ! Ron Rich
