I'm working on a 100J, and it has a couple problems. It will select and play when it is scanning left to right. Which would be the A side of the record. When I select a B side, when it selects a record it, it regects the record as soon as the needle lands. It does not cancel the pin. I'm pretty sure it's electrical, as I can feel the buzz from the solenoid. Where should I start looking for the problem?
Thanks, Lincoln

Hi Ron,
I'm sure it has. I bought it at an auction house, so I'm sure it was hauled there. When I brought it home, all I was able to do was tighten down the mech, and use blankets to keep the mech from moving back and forth.

If you "tightened down the mech "with the 3 - 9/16 nuts-- attsa what caused this problem-- worst-est thing (IMHO) to do ! Open the rear small door - look at the frog -- it's bounced out of the u shaped holder, if you are lucky--- or it has ruined that holder! Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
So I may have squished a frog? I'll look at it closer later today. The frog looks like it is down in the holder like it is supposed to be. Does that holder get bent, or how does it get ruined? So I know what I'm looking for, how does this cause the trip solenoid to activate? I can feel the solenoid puling the detent lever up.

Hi Lincoln, Yep-- holder, and holder spring both, get damaged-- OFTEN ! The frog sensor is stuck on the pin, causing the trip coil to fire-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
I have the mech out of the cabinet and am running it on my bench. I had the pin bank off, and can't see any damage to the frog holder or the spring on it. If I look down the row of pins from the side of the mech, I can see the sensors are ever so slightly closer to inside row of pins. This seems to be dictated by the slots in the bottom of the pin bank that the frog rides in. Am I missing some way to adjust this? I read in the manual about left and right adjustment, but not in and out.

Hi Lincoln, The reason you ca find "no inn-out adjustment" is -- wait for it-- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
OK-there is no "in-out adjustment ! "In-out" is dependent upon the slides for the frog ! Put up a photo of that frog/SAU and I may see what's happening -- ? Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
I just located my problem. Some previous tech had done a piss poor job of soldering new wires on the end of record trip switch. One strand of the wire was coming in contact with ground. It must have been just slight enough that it was happening on one side of the record, and not the other when the tone arm shifted. It's selecting fine on both sides not. And I feel better about not squishing a frog! Thank you for your help.

Hi Lincoln, Well is ""tech" a good word for a "poor solder-er" Glad you found that ! Ron Rich
