Hi folks, working on what was left of a 222.
It's back to life after a lot of work (too much) some parts (too many) etc. Please use motor oil for your car.......had to take the mech apart to the last screw to get it clean and running, NO FUN...
The problem i'm running in too is new to me.
During initial testing i found when making a selection (picks up selected record) i would get 3 additional selections always the same (P5 K5 M5). These selections are also picked up when just putting the mech in manual scan through the service switch every time. Something is writing in these selections. Removed the TES same result.
Expected the RCSU2 to be the cause of this but have not found any issue wipers reset contacts clean.
Anyone have a suggestion ?
TSU1 with RCSU2 (set to SPU) TMU1 SPU1H TES163 (should have been TES 162 but works).

Hi Marcel, I have been using the correct "motor oil" for years-- no problem- the sticky problem happens when the wrong oils/greases are mixed ! As for the problem you are having-- it's in the read-out, not write-in section-- probably the grounding plate on the TMU has lost it silver plating, in those spots ? Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
the silver plating is indeed missing/worn, most of the TMU's tend to be that way some worse some better. I will ground the ground plate to the chassis of the TSU. During experimenting i found it would also trip at different locations or trip when making a selection. I changed the OA2 and 12ax7 on the pulse amp problem has disappeared, not feeling very confident this fixed the problem.
This mech had a smell of old engine oil and everything was covered in it, i know you recommend the 20w electric motor oil. I can not get it over the big pudle and have been using zoom spout oil as an alternative. Not the best IMHO.
*edit* grounded the strip checked ground on PA and PA plug pin 33
Problem is back as was to be expected. Put everything back in the cabinet and the fun started again.

Hi Marcel, By "grounding" the plate to the chassis, you are by-passing the 5 Amp.fuse, on the front of the mechanism ! By passing this can allow 117 vac to enter the TMU--end of the TMU if / when, that happens ! I suggest that you turn over the grounding plate--you will need to drill new mounting screw holes. If someone has already done that-- re-plating is the only answer-- Also- how good is the silver on top of the pins that ride the TMU -- They MUST still have silver on them and not be gouged out ! Check that both wires going to the grounding pins are in fact, good -- Clean pins # 33 (ground) on the large Cinch-Jones plugs, as that's usually what causes these problems. I have been told that you can get 20 wt. oil over there ? Look for it as it is used in something like a tree saw-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron,
Will follow your advice.
I will have another look at the connectors and ground plate. I have turned the ground plate over on earlier machines those didn't need drilling new holes.
Pins on the contact block have silver on them and are not hollowed out. I always rewire the wiring of the pins as in most cases the wires are worn and damaged from previous repairs.
Good point bypassing a fuse is never a good idea, i know hooking up a wire to the chassis of the TSU is done a lot, never had the need to do so myself, but never had a machine tripping at semi fixed locations either. As a test methode to pinpoint the problem it made no difference still tripping at semi fixed locations.
As for the oil, we can get single grade oil, but most are paraffin based or have a load of additives. That's why i was looking for 3 in 1 SAE20 oil. For some reason it's not part of the product line in the Netherlands.

Reversed the grounding plate after drilling new holes. cleaned the TMU connector pins and cleaned the sockets, measured continuity. same for TES. 1 of the ground pins on the contact block had some friction oil gunk inside the contact block cleaned now moving freely.
Guess what has been playing for several hours without additional trips.
Ron i hope you live to be 200...
I have restored many Seeburgs and have never seen this problem before, guess i need to do some more
note: we sure the back is silver plated, it looks like only one side is silver plated.

Hi Marcel, I am not gonna make 100-- let alone 200- LOL-- Yep-- those bars were dipped in silver-- both sides are plated. Ron Rich
