Hi,
I have a1962 Princess 1493 that's been working fine but at the weekend everything ok except no sound anymore from record playing.
Speaker connections ok. Is it best to start fault finding from stylus, cartridge, back to amp? Not sure how to test a cartridge though I do have a spare I can try.
Not sure of best process really but if anyone can help that will be great.
Thank you.

It would be un-usual to have the speakers fail-- It would not be un-usual to have the needle fail-- start there--is the "point" still there ? If yes, is the volume turned up ? If yes, is the amp getting power (fuse the correct size & type + good ) ? If all "yes"-- most likely the amp past away--- Ron Rich

Thank you for your reply. So far I have replaced the cartridge and then noticed that I wasn't getting any glow at all from the 12AU7 ECC82 valve on the amp (one adjacent to valve 12AX7 ECC83). Also the 1A slow blow fuse had failed. I have replaced the valve and put a new fuse in but the fuse blows straight away. New valve is glowing though the amp fuse blows each time. Not sure where to look next other than looking for a short somewhere on visible wiring. I did wonder whether there is something wrong in the circuit that switches the amp on when the record is selected but not sure. Any help appreciated. Amp is a 36320-A.

I can't advise on what to do, other then take the amp to someone who has the skills needed to trouble shoot, and repair it correctly. I can advise you on what not to do, to avoid further damage-- Do not replace that fuse again ! Once blown, it indicates it is attempting to save your amplifier-- Ron Rich
