So, the background info... my grandparents had this Seeburg 200 for as long as I remember, and I always thought it was really cool. Unfortunately, they passed away 6 years ago, and basically the thing ended up sitting in my parents garage in Seattle all this time. Without going into too much more detail into the changing of hands and good intentions and all that, I ended up putting it in my Ranger a couple weeks ago and driving it back to my house in California. I cleaned it up really well last weekend, so cosmetically it's looking pretty good. I bought a large 214 page PDF that contains the manual for it, I printed out the relevant parts of it for this particular model this morning, now I intend to do some research and figure out what I need or should do in terms of maintenance or repair.
My understanding of it's operational status was that my mom plugged it in their garage 6 years ago to test that it functioned, and indeed, it played a couple selections seemingly without any issues. She unplugged it, then it sat. I likewise plugged it in as soon as I got it in my house, and I played two selections on it, and it seemed to work fine... I went into my garage for 5 or 10 minutes immediately after this test, and when I came into my house, I could smell a funny odor from the jukebox... so I unplugged it. The odor went away after a day, then I brought my audiophile neighbor over to get his opinion on a couple things, and when I tried to plug the jukebox in and play a song, the unit would not make a selection. I would press a letter, that key would stay down, then a number, and then both keys would just pop back up and the select-o-matic device wouldn't move anywhere. You can hear a light humming inside the jukebox, which I assume is just the power supply. The odor from the previous incident started to come back after 10ish minutes, so I unplugged it, and now I'm here trying to glean some way as to how to proceed.
So, having actually seen the jukebox work, I'm fairly confident I stand in a place of just needing to give the thing some TLC; maybe replace some electrical, and clean/maintain some other components.
Having tried to Google this problem, one website, Flippers.com, seems to expound on this particular problem:
EDIT: Removed copyrighted material
So I'm hoping between information like that, this forum, and the manual, I can familiarize myself with this jukebox and develop a plan for getting it back in good working order. I appreciate any technical input or advice! I can provide some pictures of the internal circuitry if anyone thinks that would be useful (I tried when making this post but it says file too big...). Thank you!
