I purchased a Seeburg KD200H and the Scan Control Unit is buzzing on the back. I've only had this unit a few days and have some electronics experience, but a newbie to Jukeboxes.
I rewired the power and light cord for the unit. They were older (original) ends and the lights were unplugged from the system power board because the screw post holder was broken to keep the prong in place. The ones I removed were original, almost like a plastic bakelite material. I don't think much has been replaced on this.
Anyway, I inspected the wires throughout and none appear cracked or loose, and no appearance of burned wires or circuitry. While somewhat dusty, the unit is in good shape for its age.
When plugged im, the Scan Control Unit makes a continuous buzzing sound so I quickly unplugged it just to be safe. There is a green and black wire connected to it from lower on the power board (they are both soldered to a round piece on the other end). Actually, the green wire was disconnected but I've resoldered it to the Scan unit next to the black one. It buzzed exactly the same before and after I reconnected the green wire.
The stepper/mechanical pieces of the little Scan Control unit move freely by hand, and from what I've read, it works as designed when pushing the plunger manually to engage the stepper in the first groove, then second groove, and then it releases or "resets" when you push the other plunger. This is what I understand does the first then second scan when you make a selection, but mine just buzzes loudly and nothing moves in that mechanism.
This was in a bar for years and it was dirty; then in a basement, but dry storage for years after that.
The record selector doesn't move, but the song list drum does rotate. I was able to quickly determine these things before unplugging the unit.
Is the Scan Control Unit bad, or does something usually cause this to buzz you're familiar with when not working correctly?
I have a service manual, but the power supply isn't discussed in detail.
Thank you,
Matt Hudson
