Selection and Volume Issues in a Frankenstein KD200

So I've got a relatively interesting one here, and I'm not really sure what to consult or which manuals. (To start, I do have original service manuals for the KD200, and V200)

I've inherited my family's KD200. Or at least it looks like a KD200 on the outside.

Off the bat, it has a MRA5-L6 amplifier installed in it. Poorly. My KD200 service manual says that's incorrect, and there should be a 25PAU-1. It also has a "TSUI" selector unit instead of the TES201 specified by my service manual.
Make of that mess what you will. I'll include a photo for your viewing displeasure.

I saw this thread about a V200 asking if you could stick a MRA5-L6 amp in there. Seemed to be a "no."
So I guess for the record I'll state that this machine ran beautifully my entire childhood and sound great.

Obviously not anymore. In fact (problem #1) the amplifier is very quiet. Didn't use to be that way, so something has degraded. Not the tubes, those are pretty new.

For this problem, service manual says

1) Defective tube, replace (Done)
2) Volume control not turned up (Volume at Max) or shorted (Don't think so, adjusts, but is just quiet)
3) Armatures not in place, they seem to be.
Not sure how much the rest can be set with this manual if the amp is different.

Could also be poor contact, note the plug to the selection unit isn't fully inserted. There's a tab in the door preventing insertion. I plan to get rid of that tab with a dremel or something, but for now that's how it is apparently.

Problem #2 is the TSU, it's doing the scan-twice and never play anything. I was told that last year (last time it was used) it was 'shuffling' and playing random selections of its own choosing when a record was selected.

For this issue, the service manual refers me to the "Tormat Selection System Troubleshooting Procedure," but this seems specific to the unit that's *supposed* to be in the KD200, not the unit I actually have.
I suspect a major service is needed for the Tormat, but honestly this whole thing is confusing.

When I was a kid, we had a professional jukebox repair gentleman who would come and maintain it every now and then.
He hated this thing, and said it was a cause of his drinking.
Starting to understand why.

Here are some additional photos of the inside of the machine. I can take the amp and selector off tomorrow to get some photos beside them also.
I had the amp off earlier, and it looks like someone recapped everything, but the resistors look fairly old.

I also have a Tormat Model 200TM2 that was in a box stored with the machine. I have no idea if this Tormat in the box was the original unit in the machine, or if it's a spare my Dad acquired at some point or another. Is there a good way to bench test it?

The resistors, nor caps, can be "judged" by looking--Must be metered ! What does look "odd" from here, is the soldering "job" on the Tormat plug going to the PA. It must have one of the colored wires going to the tip of the plug, and another colored wire going to the ring, ALONG with, the shield wire. Resistance of the loop should be about, 2.5 ohms.
Your manual spec.'s the TMU-2 for that phono-- I suspect you have a TMU-3 installed in it-- the only difference is the Cinch-Jones plug VS, the flat plug, that fit the original PC connectors. Ron Rich

Hey Ron, thanks for the input!
That soldering 'job' is not unique. There are several sites like that in there. Lots of frankensteined wires. It's like this machine consists of three other jukeboxes and a handful of modern stuff crammed into one shell.

I pulled the amp and the selector off of the jukebox and took some photos of the rear. imgur.com/a/b376dAH

The amp looks fairly clean (with the fresh looking capacitors I mentioned earlier), but the selector looks like a mess, and because I have a stock KD200 manual, don't have those schematics on hand.
I checked the resistance of the tormat plug. My meter reads 2.4 ohms, with some fluctuation between 2.3 and 2.5.

Actually, the TSU is about the same as is the whole rear door on the K models- The amp is very similar-- but you can search out correct component model schematics for what you have. Ron Rich

in the photo it looks lile the "jones" plug for the 6.3 and 120 are not well mated

One can not "shove the Jones Plugs" together, on any, Tormat Model Phonograph, and expect it to work ! Ron Rich
