Hi Hildegard, Thanks, but if it were a fuse, it would be wired in series, with one of the wires going to a motor-- Ron Rich

Ok, then I'll have to pass. Would you find out if I send you the schematic? Otherwise I need to ask a Wurlitzer technician to be sure to get a right answer. I will see him on July 25th.

Hi Hildegard, I'm sure I have the schematic-- just never noticed that symbol before-- Maybe someone will know sooner, and post it ? I am thinking that it may translate to "ballast resistor" ? Thanks, Ron

Ron, I emailed the technician. He said "in case the motor gets braked or blocked the VDR becomes low resistance and protects the winding. VDR equals varistor." He gives no warranty on this but I don't doubt he is right.

Hi Hildegard, Thanks-- that makes sense, as that's what a "Varistor" is supposed to do ! However--no warranty here either, as they often seem to fail-- I don't think they are used today ? Ron Rich

I guess Wurlitzer used the VDR until their last OMT which was in 2013. For the very last models we don't have updated paper goods, but I doubt they improved anything unless really urgently needed.

Hello everyone. Regarding the VDR, I am aware that it is a varistor element for motor protection purposes.
