Ron, how often do black and grey boxes go bad? Also what is the number one killer of either? if there is one.

Hi Dude, This depends on the production date ! Early on, upon speaking with the guy's that were building the LSI's, 14 years was considered the life time, as they figured the "package seal" would last that long--as time went on, they found better ways to seal the chip--thus a longer life expectancy. 99 % of the un-opened ones sent to me, today, are just fine--problem is elsewhere in the phono. Greatest "killer" of them is "people", opening them up ! 2nd biggest killer is the neg 27/13,DCC voltage being off. Ron Rich
