A friends ROCOLA 454 will not open . The key turns , and unlocks the right side, but left is latched solid. Don't know if it means anything but the key will not come out in any position. The used to open it often to push pins to select songs, as the write in circuits were defective. Now they can't open it. Any advice? This only has one key/lock on the right side. I suppose it has a linkage rod that operates the left side. If we knew exactly where to drill a hole we could release it with a screwdriver. Thanks.

Have you tried a heat gun on the lock to see if you can increase movement - do you get 90 degrees of movement on the lock?

Yes, full 90. But other side won't release.

Looking at the parts list, it appears the lock is only at one side?

Also, isn't that drawing ridiculously complicated for a latch?

The drawing also includes the coin mech reject lever (item 37).

Ahh. Do you have one you can open to see what could interfere with the left side opening ?

It won't open an 1/8" Don't think the strut could do it. I see the front open on the pic you sent me, does the 454 the same? Maybe first? I know I've had this one open like 5 years ago, no trouble .

Yes the 454 is the same arrangement, see www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/Rock-Ola/R.O.453.htmI thought the 459 picture showed the LHS a bit better. The top opens first and then the front door. I still think it can only be the spring loaded strut? From the 454 brochure:

Thanks . You're probably right, I don't see what else it could be. So, BRUTE FORCE is called for. I'll let you know.

When I first picked up my 453 the latch on the left side was sticky. While turning the key, push the lever manually under the left side and that would jimmy it open. I just lubricated all those bits once it was open and now it works fine.
