Hi Everyone,
I need to remove the tone arm from my friends Wurlitzer 1700. For some reason I cannot fit a needle and I think the lugs (that the needle slides onto) may be bent or broken. I think it best I remove it to inspect it properly.
Looking at the manual, It appears that if I remove the 'speed clip' that holds the gimbal in place, the whole arm can be removed (after I remove the tone arm wire assembly plug).
It looks a simple job, am I correct?
The juke is not at my house, I'm just trying to be prepared beforehand.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Gordon...

Hi Gordon, I'm not particularly familiar with these so you may be correct. On the later models there is a bracket with two screws to take the complete arm off. That same bracket is there on the 1700, you can see the lower screw here www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/Wurlitzer/Wurlitzer1700.htm in the bottom picture. Norman.

Thanks Norman,
That bracket looks like it holds the weight of the arm, it's not shown in my manual (section 11 page 85).
I'll let you know how I go.
Thanks Gordon...

Hi Norman,
I finally got back to my friend's house. It looks like he was pushing the needles in at an angle, and broke two as well as bending the retaining clip.
I gently installed a very old needle that I found, and it's working. No need to remove the tonearm.
An easy fix in the end.
Cheers Gordon...

Hi Norman,
As an update....
The jukebox started to lose clarity again so I had to revisit the tonearm problem. The needle was again loose.
This is an old friend's jukebox who passed away a few years ago, so, I don't know what he had been working on.
I removed the tonearm, and I found that one of the connectors (that the Cobra needle pushes onto), was bent and pushed out towards the back. It looked like he may have pushed a needle in at an odd angle and bent the connector.
I bent the connector straight (from the rear of the tonearm), and reinstalled a new needle and the tonearm, it now sounds pretty good. I managed to obtain a new needle from Stamann Jukeboxes in The Netherlands. These needles are pretty rare now.
Thanks for your interest.
Gordon.....

Just a footnote: Victory Glass now has 97-1 Cobra cartridges back in stock again.
