Hello,
I have a Prestige 2 160. When power on it will scan all the way left, then right and rest in the home position on the right. When a selection is made it will travel to position 177 and stop. The trip level has not fired, it just stops there. When I press the reject button the carriage will travel to the correct selection pick up the record and put it back. Everything seems to function in reject mode. I see there are service codes but the manual does not say how to use them. And help appreciated.

"When power on it will scan all the way left, then right and rest in the home position on the right" - that's normal, it is finding a datum point from which it then counts.
Are you saying that after you operate the reject switch, it works OK from then on? I'm not sure about selection 177 - but have you cleaned the opto switch so that it's getting a reliable count?
You mention service codes, are you getting an error message? You haven't said, is your jukebox set for free play? It would also be worth running through the programming to ensure that there are no corrupt settings which can sometimes cause issues.
Norman.

I'd like to follow this post out of interest and see whether I can add anything. As a newbie I can only speak from my NSM Consul 160 experience. Is the Prestige 2 160 similar or has it got the older toroid magnetic field selection system? I'd be interested to hear what happens if you choose 177? When you say it works with the reject button held, is that the complete cycle e.g. stop, pick up record, play record, replace record. On my diagrams I can see that the reject button puts back the earth for the motor to run again. Is it that something has operated/released the earth drive to the motor? Hence motor is stopped to early. Has it got relays the same as Consul? This is my sequence. "When the selection is made (3 numbers entered) FA relay operates, (MO relay has operated on power up) and both motors start up and the carriage starts scanning. When the correct record is found LR relay is operated which “fires” the solenoid ..... Tony

After pressing reject it runs through the cycle and returns home but will stop again on the next selection. Opto is clean and seems to be getting good readings, when I hold the reject button I can see it indexing. I mention the codes because there is a label inside the unit with a series of what I think are programming codes starting with PP, P2, but I don’t have a programmer. Thought maybe I could do it with the keypad.

I can manually turn the gear or press reject and it will go through it. It’s like the DC motor doesn’t get powered when in auto mode. It starts the scan, gets to 177 or 176 and stops. Both motors start initially but then the DC motor stops. Not sure what you mean by earth drive?

I've had a look at the schematic, you need to check the operating switch BS which looks like it might be faulty. The reject switch is in parallel with the operating switch which is the ground route for the motor operating relay MO during record transfer. I'm still not sure about the 177/176 selection but let's deal with one issue at a time! The programming is done via the keyboard and should be covered in the manual - is it not in yours? There are some NSM manuals here nsmjukeboxmanuals.yolasite.com/manuals.phpThey're not very good quality but the programming info should be readable. I would check that there is a valid entry in each location. If it's on free play you're not particularly concerned what most are, just so long as they're valid! Norman.

Update: Thank you for the feedback. I took gray cover off the to make sure there was no binding or pinched wires. Put it back together and it just cycles left and right. I took apart the opto to clean it but no change. I also checked continuity from the opto to the end of the connector. I am thinking there is a short on the carriage circuit board but no way to verify.
Have not been able to find an opto for sale, any suggestions or ways to troubleshoot the carriage CB?
I have another issue when the mute circuit is engaged the is a loud clicking sound coming from the speakers.
Thank again.

I'm totally confused here - you previously told us "opto is clean and seems to be getting good readings, when I hold the reject button I can see it indexing", fair comment that probably shows the opto is working. Based on that I suggested "you need to check the operating switch BS which looks like it might be faulty. The reject switch is in parallel with the operating switch which is the ground route for the motor operating relay MO during record transfer".
Did you check the operating switch BS, you've made no mention of that? And why are you looking for a replacement opto switch when you told us it was OK?
Norman.

Sorry I skipped a few things in my last post. Checked BS and it was good, adjusted it a little for proper engagement on the cam. Still the same problem. I removed the motor cover as mentioned and it started continuously cycling right and left which is why is suspected the opto. After taking a closer look I must have bumped the carriage or something, it seems the the 4 pin connector on the IC is loose, it looks like the solder pulled the copper right off the board. This is too intricate for me to repair.
