I have a Rockola 429 Starlet. Some time back I bought an original service manual and parts list (not a reprint). I have noticed several differences in that there is a different tone arm, no home switch at the bottom of the wobble plate, and a microswitch mounted beneath the scan/operate switch. Is there more than one version of the 429, or did I just get lucky and find a model that was retrofitted with a different chassis? Also wondering where the home switch actually is because my magazine is continuously spinning in one direction.
Thanks in advance for any help y'all can provide.

Can you post some pictures, you'll need to use an external host like postimages? The tone arm would be a major clue.
Norman.

Hi Norman - Sure:
I have an Accu-Trac tone arm:
The manual says I should have this one. This one rides on the trunion shaft next to the cam. The cam is behind the Accu-Trac tone arm, and switch is in a different position.
The manual says my home switch is on the bottom of the wobble plate:
My wobble plate looks like this:
Wondering if this might be the home switch:
This is my trusty, original service manual and parts list:

Looks like a 429 to me. Not sure about the home switch, maybe somebody changed it? I haven't had time to look at that part. What you've marked is the A-B snap switch, isn't it?
Norman.

Perhaps it is the AB Snap Switch. I wouldn't know because my Rockola manual doesn't have one there. Not sure how you would explain the tone arm difference, either. I couldn't get valid part numbers for my Accu-Trac tone arm from that manual.

Yep, that's it. The one in your link also has same the Accu-Trac tone arm as mine, which is not a match what is in the manual. The pictures below show that the tone arm switch is vertical on the Accu-Trac, near the top of the assembly. The one pictured in the manual (part #18) has the tone arm switch mounted horizontally, near the base.
The A-B switch isn't clearly displayed in the manual due to the operate/scan switch somewhat obscuring it, but I did find it there. As far as the home switch goes, I've accepted the fact that someone must have removed it (who knows why anyone would do such a thing). I'm going to need to find one, because that magazine will spin forever unless I have loaded the jukebox with selections.

Hi markalan, it seems some models 429 can be found with the older style tonearm (brown colour with a ornament "diamond") and others with the Accu-trac tonearm like in your 429. The 433 parts catalogue for example shows an exploded view of the accu-trac. I uploaded the grafic here: www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/FAQ-RO/TonarmEinstellung.htm#AccuIn general: Sometime Rock-Ola used the same grafic on a unit in their parts catalogues. E.g. the tone arm parts list for your 429 shows the same picture like used in parts catalogues of 425 and 426. But those two models use Shure M77, not Astatic like the 429 picture shows. The part numbers for the cartrdiges are listed different. So one cannot rely for 100% on the grafics.

I had the same issue with my 429. It had differences from the manual the same as yours. I was having the issue that the magazine would not return to home. It would just stop after replacing record. I found that the home position is determined by an extra trace and set of wipers on the read out side of the selector assembly. The manual shows 5 traces and wiper sets and mine has 6 with the outer trace having a break at the home position. Hope this helps.
