Hi everyone. I attempted a recap of my 2610 amp and must have botched something up in the process. I’m a new member and an amateur at this. I’ve done some work previously when I restored and recapped my Dynakit ST 70 a few years ago. I have a basic working understanding of electronics, electricity and wiring and can understand a schematic and follow instructions well, however I feel like I’ve exceeded my level of ability here and hope someone might be able to offer some guidance.
I picked this machine up in working order mostly original condition. The amp/preamp unit had never been worked on. I purchased a recap kit from Victory glass and got to work. The PCB recap went pretty well, However I ran into some challenges beyond that such as replacing the 3 can electrolytics with separate polarized caps and that some of the caps were missing their schematic ID numbers and had no values displayed on them that I understood.
when I completed the work and after reinstalling the unit, it powered up fine. All of the tubes illuminated normally. There was a slight hum initially then it subsided. I selected a record, which loaded and be an to play, but there was no sound. Once play began, a hum was noted. Volume control had little effect, only to increase the hum. As the record played, all of the tubes began glowing very intensely. I have never experienced this before but knew it was not a good sign, so I immediately powered the unit down and unplugged it. That’s where I am at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
