I’m in the process of restoring a Wurlitzer 2500. It’s been cleaned adjusted oiled and re-capped. If I make a selection by tripping a selector pin, everything works perfectly. The record loads plays and returns to the carousel after playing. With the eight amp fuse, removed from the play rack and a dime inserted in the coin slot it will play one song perfectly. However it does nothing with quarters inserted. With the eight amp fuse, inserted in the play rack it still does nothing with quarters and will select one song with a dime but the mechanism fails to reverse and jams against the selector pin. I have to turn it off and manually reset the pin to un-jam the mechanism. Sorry for the long story. Here’s my question. Why doesn’t the playrak recognize quarters? Why does the mechanism jam when the fuse is in the playrak when it is activated by a dime? Also. The coin switches have been cleaned and adjusted and I have a manual. Thanks in advance for your comments.

The fuse in the playrak should be 0.8 amp, not 8 amp. You should check that.
If the quarters are not working it can be the coin switch, the quarter's 'coil magnet' is shorted or open, or the 'key switch' is not being closed.

Thanks. Sorry I’m meant .8. I’ll check the key switch. Would that prevent it for going in reverse and jamming on the selector pin?

The playrak 8/10 amp fuse is for the 24vac (phono) voltage going to the 'coil magnet assembly'. It is meant to protect the coils if a coin switch gets stuck. Although the selection system and stepper utilizes this voltage, the mechanisms transfer cycle does not. I really can't see why you would get that result.

I believe the jamming problem is a separate issue. It only happened once and hasn’t happened sense. Today I found that the cancel coil has been replaced and its stroke is not correct. I also believe there is a problem with my coin switches so I’m going to reinvestigate that. The coin electro magnets look good and I gave them a very quick test with 24 volts and they both operated fine. With your help and the manual I feel like I have a better understanding. Thanks.

The most likely cause for the mechanism to jam on a selected pin the the 'carriage switch', a common issue.
