My Wurlitzer 2250 will not play sound out of the speakers. The record loads properly and you can hear faint music where the needle touches the record. The speakers buzz as if they have power running to them. It is a low hum, like a guitar amp left idle. But no music plays out of the speakers. How can I troubleshoot this to get some music coming out of the speakers? Thank you! Can’t wait to get this awesome thing back up and running.

Do you have a service manual or amp schematic? Do you have any knowledge of electronic tube audio theory? Some simple things to try: I'm assuming the 5U4 is glowing when running, but check anyway. Tap on the 12AU7 tube while it's running, see if you can hear the tapping though the speaker. It should come through loud and clear (if the volume is turned up). If the tapping comes through, you may have an issue with the 97-1 cartridge or it's connections. Try operating the amp's 'fader switch' back and forth several times to see if that lets the record's sound through... but leave this switch on 'phono only'. Do the same for the volume control. Pull the 'muting' plug to see if that lets the sound come through. Beyond that, there may not be much that is simple. Let us know! -Marty
P.S. If that amplifier hasn't been used in some time it might be best to consider replacing it's capacitors before applying power.
