I have an AMI D-40 that works well after a restoration. At some point in the past it was converted to play 45’s (not by me), and it has the blue plastic ring adapters for each record. I have so far only been running the records that came with it as they are period-correct and enjoyable, but I’d like to change them out for some Christmas music for the season.
Is there a trick or tool to safely get the records out of those ring adapters? I feel like I’m going to snap either the record or the adapter. Seems like you need to get the record past at least two of the tabs that hold it in place and it might slide out, but I don’t think the plastic ring is supple enough to flex that far. So far I’m unsuccessful but I haven’t broken anything yet, either.
Advice appreciated.

Hot water is what I use to make them more flexible. Even then you have to be careful . Practice with scratched records that you don't care about . Also there is a great difference between 45s, some older tick ones are tough. Newer, thin ones are easy .

Great idea, thank you! I was considering maybe buying a set of new adapters so I could leave the non-Christmas records mounted up and swapping for the holidays would be easy, but the adapters are a bit pricey. I need to get into 3D printing and I could just make my own! I'll give your method a shot.
