Question for those who may have a 494 series unit - on the schematics I see reference to muting. Anyone know what controls this, one of the cam switches perhaps? Reason I ask is that it does not appear that my unit mutes when loading records for example. You can hear when the cartridge passes over the cleaning brush and would assume that it should be muted during this time.

On the earlier models it was cam switch 3

I got squared away. There is a squelch board on the amp that handles that. Mine had an open resistor on the board causing it not to mute. I rebuilt an amp for a friend as well and the resistor in that unit was open as well. Might have had a bad run of resistors when the amps were built. |
