Hi, I'm new here and need help with my 1458. A little background: I've owned a 1947 1426 since 1967 and the 1958 1458 for about 32 years. The 1458 has not been turned on in about 15 years but I decided to get it running as a Christmas surprise for my wife. I put all new strips and records in it and got it looking great but when I pushed the number buttons there was none of the usual click and nothing else happened. It was working fine about 15 years ago and has not been turned on since. I am able to get the carousel turned by using the scan lever and the strip wheel turns by pushing the color buttons but the carousel doesn't move except when using the scan lever. The turntable is not energized either. I have checked all the fuses and they're all good. Any ideas? I just found this forum and I wish I'd found it earlier. My 1426 is the same as my birth year and the 1458 is the same as my wife's birth year. She's been bugging me for years to fill it up with 45s but I just got around to it lately. Help!

Hi athenus, When a jukebox sits for a long time it is not unusual that it does not work right away today. It "stands itself broken" (I hope it's a good term) because of contacts gotten corroded, oil and grease in the mechanism gotten sticky, gummed up, and relays, switches, microswitches, etc. faulty - just to name a few problems. All this needs to be checked and cleaned. Maybe no credit was given, no coin inserted. To make a selection credit needs to be established first - unless your 1458 is set on free play. In your model the can capacitor in the credit unit can be worn. It has two values (300 + 150 µF) and it is needed for making selections. Do you have a service manual and schematic wiring diagram of your 1458? Sequences of operation are described in the manual and the schematic wiring diagram shows how all is connected to each other. If not I suggest to get one. If you're in USA you can get it from Victory Glass at www.victoryglass.com or Always Jukin at www.alwaysjukin.com. I guess you see that just one answer can't be given. More information are needed. And I guess it will not be just one issue to work on but several ones. Hildegard

Thanks for the information Hildegard. I did finally get it running pretty well but the magazine really squeals when it turns. I have had an installation manual for a long time but it doesn't have a lubrication chart. I have a friend that is familiar with jukeboxes that will stop by soon and check it out. I am very familiar with "stands itself broken," having owned an airplane, many vintage motorcycles and cars and a host of other vintage stereo equipment. I feel pretty good about the way the 1458 is running now except for the metal to metal squealing between songs and that seems like a minor problem compared to my former problems with it. I'm a real fan of German equipment and have many tube radios and stereos such as Emud, Telefunken, Blaupunkt and Grundig. I've been to your beautiful country many times and have a couple of German cars and a German brother-in-law to boot.

Good that you got the 1458 running again. Even if the magazin makes noises when turning, you know that in general all works. Some lubrication is most likely needed. The service manual should have the sections "Installation & Operation", "Instructions Manual" and "Parts List". I guess this is what you have had. But it doesn't show a lubrication. A large schematic wiring diagram is available too. It is not 100% the same but the lubrication chart of models Tempo 2 should work on your 1458 as well: www.jukebox-world.de/Forum/Archiv/FAQ-RO/Schmierplan.htm#Rock-OlaI am glad you understood my "Stands itself broken". I am afraid this happens on all classic stuff sooner or later .... You owned an airplane - how cool is that! And you are very familiar with Germany it seems. Yes, it is a country with many beautiful places. And like in other countries too - England, USA, France, Italy ... Good luck with the further inspections on your jukebox and enjoy all your equipment! Happy new Year!
