I was going through a box of old Seeburg clutches and clutch members when I recalled this post... What Ron told me about Seeburg clutches - Clutch MEMBERS, starting with the model 201, are all the same. The earlier ones (used from the B on thru VL, are slightly shorter longer, but the newer ones will work just fine in them--old members have a hard time in newer models. Clutch ASSEMBLIES, were made in three versions. Different top gear for the pre 201's, and different gearing for the 45 "native" verses the 33 native models (LPC's--APFEA1). and different "spacers" used in them too.
Norman. I'm just trying to confirm this information. I searched the forum to see if Ron mentioned this in a post... but didn't find anything. I believe the taller or longer clutch members were fitted to the earlier mechanisms (not the shorter ones as mentioned above). I've never attempted to mix the different sized clutch members before, so I'm trying to determine which clutch members work best in which clutches?

That was cut and pasted from an email from Ron to me from a few years ago. My original query to him was along the lines "I need to replace the clutch on a DS - will any Seeburg clutch be OK?" There's a guy in the UK sells used parts and it looks like I was considering buying a newer Seeburg clutch from him because I have linked to that in my query to Ron. I have no recollection of buying that part though so I can only assume that the existing clutch was serciceable.

Thanks Norman, it looks like Ron got it mixed up. The longer (or taller) clutch member definitely goes into the earlier clutches. Likewise, the shorter clutch member goes into clutches from the 201 and up (and the K200). If installing a 'new' style clutch member, the thicker or wider section gets installed downward, towards the sprocket... although it's unlikely it can be installed upside down. The clutches and gearing were re-engineered beginning with the 160 select (and later 200 select) models to increase the scan speeds. It seems that many operators complained about the V200 being too slow. I'm not entirely sure why Seeburg shortened the clutch member; it may have to do with a timing or momentum issue. One time at Warren Rowe's shop he was showing off a Seeburg HF100R in which he had installed a newer clutch and gear set. That mechanism seemed to fly back and forth! Warren would sometimes do stuff like that when he was bored! The picture on the left is an earlier clutch from a Seeburg M100B, the picture on the right is a comparison between the M100B clutch and a later model 'Tormat' clutch. Notice the taller clutch member on the M100B...

Yes, the pictures show it perfectly - Ron obviously just got it the wrong way round! Thanks for posting these.
